I've had the privilege of working with some of the best hardware teams on the planet (HoloLens at Microsoft, Data Centers at Meta, and Devices at Google), and experienced first-hand how critical our design tools were in creating magical products. Not only has our modern world seen the benefits of these tools, but throughout human history, the tools at our disposal to design and shape our physical world have been the cornerstone to progress. My colleagues Justin Selig, Charly M. and I share our thoughts on the new wave of design tools emerging in the AI era, and how it will fundamentally transform how our physical world is designed. If you want to build this future together, lets talk: [email protected]. Thanks for sharing this Ryan Gibson and the whole team at Eclipse. Inspired by our discussions, I've crafted a brief thesis on how AI startups are challenging established players in the physical world. Here's a section on design generation - one of the more significant opportunities. DM if you want to discuss it further! Companies targeting dormant incumbents: across traditional industries, the production of physical goods is largely driven by pen and paper and legacy software systems. Such processes include both text and image heavy workflows, and oftentimes have a Tower of Babel problem, where progress is linear and involves multiple siloed collaborators.? Changes aren’t always tracked or leveraged for future product improvements. Mistakes happen often, adding up to hefty sums and new product launches are constantly delayed. Generative AI has the potential to provide both single-player benefits to individual employees as well as unlock multi-player value in collaboration across industry. Sectors: generative design in manufacturing of physical goods (mechanical parts and assemblies, electronics, buildings, etc.) Characteristics: workflows are manual and complex, multiple stakeholders are involved as a result, but they operate in silos. Incumbents are slow and don’t always leverage the full extent of their proprietary data. Opportunity: Advances in AI and computing have revolutionized design capabilities, enabling the creation of high-quality, cost-effective designs. The increasing degree of digitization downstream (procurement) enable the incorporation of tight feedback loops for optimal design creation. Advancements in supervised and unsupervised learning, paired with novel synthetic data techniques, provide starts up with a leg up in comprehensive dataset creation. Finally, the combination of it all allows for Engineers and Designers to collaborate continuously, becoming guides in the process, rather than manually (and separately) executing every aspect of it. Challenges: incumbents have a stronghold in the industry. Many times customers have made significant investments to integrate the product suite into their systems and to train their staff. There’s a tendency for startups to begin by complementing, rather than challenging existing solutions. However, for companies to unlock venture scale, they will need to confront generational incumbents. The wedge must accelerate the company’s ability to win in design, otherwise it’s too long of a path to get to relevancy. #dfm #dfx #generativedesign #builtenvironment #manufacturing #cad #eda #cae Chris Barton Peter Atkin Sabrina Paseman Aditya Raghupathy Nagesh Gupta Filip Aronshtein Juan L. Last year has, without a doubt, been exciting when it comes to innovative announcements.??? One of them that has drawn our attention is the release of the integrated Omniverse Connector, created by Vectorworks, Inc. in collaboration with NVIDIA Omniverse platform.???? The new plug-in integrates Vectorworks 3D models with Omniverse through the Universal Scene Description (USD) framework. This eliminates the need for time-consuming import/export steps, enabling designers to save valuable time and streamline collaborative processes. With high-fidelity models, designers can now iterate on design concepts in real time and easily share them with just one click.? Now, let’s go a step back. What is exactly the Universal Scene Description (USD) framework, is it some new currency? Although it has the same abbreviation as a popular dollar, its only similarity is to connect people. It is an open and extensible ecosystem for describing, composing, simulating, and collaborating within 3D worlds. Vectorworks users now have access to enhanced viewing and publishing functionalities through the Omniverse USD Presenter (formerly Omniverse View). Users can seamlessly launch and transfer their Vectorworks designs to Omniverse, publish them on a Nucleus Server, or export them as standalone USD files. Furthermore, the tool allows for precise geometric adjustments, scene organization by layers or textures, and the inclusion of metadata. Collaboration is further facilitated with checkpoint comments for change tracking.? We assume that these functions will bring the benefits of metaverse to BIM, creating a more collaborative work environment, but still, time needs to tell the story and prove the point. This feature, known as the Vectorworks Omniverse Connector, is integrated into the downloadable Vectorworks 2023 Service Pack 4 for all U.S. English-based versions.? Have you already tried Vectorworks Omniverse Connector? What are your impressions??? Share your point of view with your BIM nerds today!???

Another cool practical application of data-driven #3DDigitalTwins, #CollaborativeXR and #SpatialComputing is to transform traditional work silos to high performing interdisciplinary teams. Areas such as realtime drilling monitoring are traditionally filled with drilling experts monitoring and deciphering log data on 2D dashboards. Whenever I see those graphs, I’m quickly reminded how, in The Matrix trilogy movies, the ‘operator’ will look at a screen with moving rune-like letters and immediately understand what is happening in the 3D world. Imagine being part of a collaborative team where you are the only one who doesn’t understand what is being shown! With 3D simulation and visualisation, those 2D dashboards can be translated to 3D representation, allowing for better collaboration between disciplines. Intuitive 3D representation with Spatial Computing can make things easier to understand. This saves time, improve collaboration and efficiency and ensure mistakes are minimised. Get in touch to see how 3D Digital Twins, Colaborative XR and Spatial Computing can help your organisation today. #madewithUnity #digitaltransformation

4 周I have to disagree. If we handicap AI through regulation, other countries will eat our lunch. We need to keep a watchful eye on it, but not regulate. US Government regulation will stifle innovation. This is the only country in the world where you can start a company in your living room or garage. Governmental regulation will discourage innovators and innovation.
