In the sectors I recruit for, lots of organisations require an application form to apply. Now, I completely understand the need for compliance and safeguarding, but by leading with an application form, you’re reducing the number of candidates who will apply. Just last week, I was working with a great candidate who was trying to fill in a complex application form while away on holiday. He ended up giving up and going back to his cocktail. This happens all the time. Applying for a job is a big step—make it as easy as possible for someone to initially apply or reach out, then perhaps work on the vetting a little later down the line. If you watched the news these days, you wouldn’t leave the house, let alone apply for a new job. Haven’t got the time to do this? This is where a good recruiter earns their value. #recruitment #passivecandidates

I completely agree with this point. It's incredibly frustrating and unfair to job seekers when companies advertise positions that aren't actually available. This practice only adds unnecessary hurdles for candidates and burdens HR and recruiting teams who have to manage the influx of applications for non-existent roles. I've experienced this firsthand when I've had to pull job postings due to budget cuts, even after finding a rockstar candidate. It’s disheartening to let down talented individuals who have invested time and effort into the application process. We need to streamline and simplify the hiring process, ensuring transparency and honesty from the outset. It's crucial for the well-being of job seekers and the efficiency of recruitment teams. Check out one of the biggest no-nos in recruiting: saying "we're accepting applications" when they're really not hiring. It might seem honest that they mention it in their advert, but it's just a trick. Why keep up the act if they're not looking to hire? They end up pulling job seekers into a loop, leading them on to nowhere. It's not right and totally unfair.
