It was really cool to learn about National Basketball Association (NBA) Star Russell Westbrook’s involvement in a new development in the City of Los Angeles that will create 176+ new affordable homes! https://lnkd.in/ev6y8UXi Sometimes it feels like our industry operates on an island, constantly on the hunt to amalgamate funding sources and thread the narrowest of needles to bring a project to fruition. Yet the majority of people outside our circles, while familiar with the problem from a distance, do not fully understand the size and scope of the crisis, nor the intricate challenges we all face. In order to expand the pools of financing, from federal to local, widespread awareness and civic education is an essential element to foster more conversation and influence legislation. And there is no denying the power of celebrities in our culture, and the impact they can have on both public consciousness and political discourse. Last evening my wife and I had the privilege of attending the TONY FINAU FOUNDATION (TFF) Gala in Park City, Utah, with the wildly popular Jim "Bones" Mackay as a special guest. Amidst captivating stories and insightful perspectives on the current landscape of golf, what struck me the most was the profound impact athletes can make when they leverage their platform for good. Reflecting on the event, I found four key themes that resonated deeply with me: 1?? Community: TFF celebrates community. They believe in lifting each other up, supporting each others dreams, and sharing their successes. 2?? Family: The work of TFF is about giving kids what they need - and that means equipping whole families to grow stronger together. 3?? Service: Above all else, give back. TFF serves communities, kids, and families - and finds meaning only through doing good work. 4?? Empowerment: TFF gives kids and their families the tools they need to discover their passions and drive forward into their futures with confidence. Tony Finau exemplifies not only remarkable skill on the golf course but also outstanding qualities as a husband, father, and community leader. His dedication to making a difference serves as a beacon of inspiration. I'm curious to hear about other athletes who, like Tony, use their platform to effect positive change and embody admirable character traits. Meet John Shaw, Founder and MD of Chiltern Rangers, a social enterprise in Buckinghamshire focusing on two things: community and conservation. John and I chatted as part of my quest to understand Social Enterprise’ business models; who pays for what services? And what problem(s) does this solve for them? Chiltern Rangers works with schools, community groups and businesses, bringing people of all ages and abilities out into Buckinghamshire’s countryside on “Be a Ranger Days’. Activities vary from litter picking, planting trees, and creating homes for birds, to encouraging young people to gather content to post on the Chiltern Rangers’ social media accounts. John tells me how the business relies on a combination of grant and trust foundation funding, and match funding. We discuss the tricky issue of measuring impact. Rather than gathering data from his rangers, John prefers to take photos and record videos. The visual impact of community cohesion, fun and collaboration paints a thousand words. Our discussion ended with a cheeky question about the obstacles he’s experienced with Chiltern Rangers. John tells me about challenges with recruiting and retaining the right staff, the ever-present task of securing funds and the practical job of keeping tree saplings alive during a heatwave! If you know me, you already know my take on this. There are no such things as safe or unsafe 'places' - only safe or unsafe 'people'. Yet another unfortunate example below. Just last year I did two separate 3-hour professional in-service seminars for #churches, #privateschools and #nonprofits on both sides of the DFW area addressing numerous physical, data and reputational concerns for the same at the leadership level. But I also offer the same at the employee/staff and even volunteer level. Even the current #onlinecourse #onlinetraining I offer for "internal/in-house employees" addresses many of the main concerns. But technology can only address so much, especially where 'prevention' (vs. reaction) can be applied prior to such incidents. For any #insurancebroker or #insurancecompany interested in helping clients address the same, let's also talk. I know someone who can help, online and in-person. #defensebydesign

A thriving economy was destroyed, homes and businesses burned down, homes robbed and burglarized, and most of all, innocent BLACK people were killed! No one was prosecuted, nor were these homes and businesses replaced by the state or federal government. 18 hours of no law enforcement presence or response from the government at a state or federal level. Where is the formal apology from the state or federal government? Where is the well-deserved replacement or compensation to the families of these ancestors? It's just 40 acres U.S. Government? That's small compared to what you own and control today. It's 40 acres that you promised to my ancestors after slavery. I wonder where all those 40 acres went after slavery, obvious racism, Jim Crow, and our battle for civil rights. Look who is representing & want to represent our country today. Two White men who have more problems, lies, corruption, and coverups that deserve penitentiary (not jail) time than a season in 5 reality TV shows combined. If that were two Black/Brown men or women, they would have kicked them off the ballot, prosecuted & thrown them in jail, & ripped their families apart with a smear campaign from hell. I'm so glad our 1st representation was President Barrack Obama & Dr. First Lady Michelle Obama. We showed them different, didn't we? Ya'll wonder why Black Americans like me still believe this country owes Black America more than they can repay. Instead of attempting to repay, they want to repeal everything set in place to make it look like they were trying in the first place. History is repeating itself in this country & will be more potent than before because psychological restraints are stronger than physical. I know some of you will not like what I'm saying but I stand in the truth. Being authentic in my leadership means I stand on my morals, values, and truth whether everyone accepts it or not. "Likes, "Following," & "Reposts" are not what's important in 3xP Leadership?. Building extraordinary leaders for sustained success & longevity on a strong authentic foundation is important. Thank you to those ancestors who dared to be the change in the world they wanted to see.
