If you're looking for someone to tell you not to do something or to "do it yourself," you'll always find someone. Here's the truth: every gym owner I've ever seen walk on stage to receive an award at a business event knows how to leverage and work with vendors. I've never seen a "lone wolf" or "one-man band" get recognized. No one has ever won an award for saving $2 per shirt. No one has ever been honored as the "owner who does it all themselves." The people who win and get rewarded are the ones who understand how to leverage their time. Part of this is learning how to work with vendors to grow, scale, and optimize your business. You can do everything yourself: Build a website Run your own ads Print your own shirts But inevitably, you will come across a problem or situation that requires an expert. All the time and money you thought you saved will cost you 10 times more when you finally hire the expert you should have involved from the beginning. Learn to work with vendors to grow and scale your business. I promise you will be much better off.

One thing that bothers me more than losing a bid, are vendors who aren't good sports about it. We can't win 100% of everything, and we can't control the decision makers who live ethically, morally, legally and honestly in their positions (the ones that do). But when you're a potential vendor for us, and you've begged for opportunities; and we finally get a chance to collaborate and we lose...it's okay. It sucks, but it's okay. Sure information was handed out 15 minutes before the deadline, sure there were mistakes on their end, sure they admitted to it...but when you're trying to come in at champagne level and they only had a beer budget...there's not much we could have done...and probably not much that would have made us happy to work in that kind of environment either. There will be more, there always are. At any given time we've got dozens of irons in the fire. It's all about learning, growing, earning and chances as well. Growing business takes risks and chances and if someone told you that you'd be 100% successful all the time...then everyone would do it; but only a minority of us actually know what we're doing...everyone else is a hobbyist. We don't compete with hobbyists. Business goes on and we usually get more chances. It's also probably not smart to act out like this when your kind of supplier industry is common and many options exist. Everyone, don't be this dude. Take losses like wins; with respect, honor and humility...because both will bring out the same qualities in many and someone obviously had the thought to ask us to respond. #wins #eventplannerextraordinaire #losses #business #bids #bidding #contracts #respect #vendors #suppliers
