Porsche wants to Cut Down an ?? Oak Forest in Italy that is several Hundred Years old for a Test Track ??♂? Protests didn’t help. Porsche AG wants to invest 450 million euros in a test track in Pasta de Nardo - but the forest has to make way for it. The holm oak forest with hundreds of years old oaks within the test ring is the only one in the region and cannot be replaced. The forest that is protected by the EU as a Natura 2000 area. The Bosco D'Arneo is a healthy and intact forest - a rarity in southern Italy. According to EU law, it may only be touched if the planned measure serves the common good. But this is precisely what the EU Commission itself doubts. According to information from the alliance, EU Environment Commissioner Sinkevi?ius has called on the Italian government to provide further evidence of the "public interest" in the project. The destruction and concreting of forest areas for luxury cars is of no benefit to the general public. There are alternative areas nearby, but Porsche does not seem to understand that such a natural heritage is unique and should be preserved. As of now, the tree cutting has been postponed to October but just postponed. Porsche wants to plant new tree seedlings on 600 hectares. These would have to be artificially irrigated for decades in order to grow under the worsening climatic conditions in Apulia. This decision has sparked protests from law enforcement unions, who criticized the conditions aboard the vessel intended to house officers during the G7 summit. The #FSPPolizia described the accommodations as "surreal and shameful," citing issues such as malfunctioning air conditioning, unusable bathrooms, non-working showers with dirty, cold water, and foul-smelling rooms. The #Siap union called the situation "unbearable," requesting immediate relocation to alternative facilities. Antonio Tarallo, National Secretary of the #USIC, lamented the hygienic conditions, comparing them unfavorably to those in migrant hotspots, while the #Siulp union noted water leaks, debris from air conditioning units, and broken air conditioning in central cabins. The #SimGdf union expressed frustration over the lack of adequate preparations. The Prefecture of Brindisi has initiated a search for alternative accommodations in nearby provinces, ensuring that personnel will only be deployed once the situation is resolved.
