Understanding Radiolucency Under Composite Fillings in this case : Lessons from Practice ?? After recently completing a composite filling and taking a PA X-ray, I noticed an unexpected radiolucent area beneath the filling. Knowing I had removed all caries and used a flowable and packable, incremental technique, I questioned what could have caused this.? Interestingly, I encountered a similar radiolucency after an other case RCT filling ,,, where I used flowable composite as a coronal seal and liner, Although flowable composite generally appears radiopaque, it can be less radiopaque than other composites ( it is not flowable composite) I realized that this likely was an overly thick layer of bonding agent?? In vital teeth with composite fillings, I typically blow a gentle stream of air after applying the bonding agent to minimize excess and encourage bonding penetration into the etched surface. However, in these cases, I missed that crucial step, which could have led to this radiolucency. ?Lesson: Consistency in technique is crucial, especially with bonding agents. Paying close attention to every layer can make a big difference in the final outcome. Every case is an opportunity to refine our approach!?
