Please take the time to watch this to see what lies ahead for those in nursing, community health, mental health, and environmental concerns. We must become realists of a larger reality.

Suffering can foster empathy and compassion. When individuals experience suffering themselves, they are more likely to feel empathy for others in pain. This heightened sense of empathy often translates into increased acts of kindness, support for others in need, and a stronger sense of community and connection. Thus, suffering can be a catalyst for building a more compassionate society.

This month is a time to celebrate people with Down Syndrome and make others aware of their abilities and accomplishments. People with Down Syndrome are just like everyone else. They have similar dreams and goals, and they want to have successful careers and families. The National Down Syndrome Society envisions a world in which all people with Down Syndrome can enhance their quality of life, realize their life aspirations, and become valued members of welcoming communities. #DownSyndromeAwarenessMonth Read more about how you can celebrate and spread awareness: https://nuvi.me/ju6ccu

As DEI & ERSJ practitioners, we dedicate our days to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice, engaging in tough dialogues and challenging systemic inequities. Yet, we often bear the weight of others' trauma alongside our own. The impact WILL lead to burnout. Recognizing the signs, I took some time off to prevent my own burnout. Stepping back to focus on my well-being, I found strength in recharging my spirit and reflecting on my journey. After only 3 days by the ocean, I feel a shift. The ocean is my happy and safe place that re-energizes my soul. To my colleagues in this field: remember, it's okay to prioritize self-care. Our well-being is foundational to our work. By nurturing ourselves, we can better support others. Take breaks, share experiences, and know that our healing is as crucial as that of those we help facilitate. Where do you recharge your soul ?

Some of you might be interested in this. Lynne and I are speaking on Sunday at 2.30, on how to counter racism and right-wing popularism by listening and engaging, rather than dismissing and blocking. The content of our presentation: Through the concepts of attachment, loss and disenfranchisement, Lynne and John explore what it’s like to be fearful and disempowered. We will discuss how this can lead to radicalisation, and how popularist politicians might exploit fear for their own ends. Through the medium of photographic images and brief narratives, we show how, by listening and engaging with others, including those whose views we oppose, we can begin to create more compassionate, loving, harmonious interactions and hold hope for national and global ‘precarious equilibrium. https://lnkd.in/gMbWfymt..

As a Civics Professor, this is the perfect message to the next generation. I hear so often from the students that they feel like they can not have an opinion on political ideals because they are not given the chance to talk about it, they just get yelled at. We can teach the youth how to #Disagreebetter to set up the next generation of positive political conversations.
It has been an honor to serve as chair of the National Governors Association this past year and work on the #DisagreeBetter initiative. We’ve learned that healthy conflict is vital to healing our nation. At the end of the day – we are all Americans. And I’m proud to be an American.
