It's straightforward to measure certain tactics: paid campaigns, SEO, social media engagement. But assessing the long-term impact of these efforts is another challenge altogether. Let's be honest: the likelihood of a decision-maker purchasing your $25k solution after merely seeing an ad is nearly impossible! Many young companies and founders make the mistake of focusing on easily visible metrics, thinking they signify growth. They often overlook the long-term game that functions like compound interest: building a strong brand and creating an exceptional customer experience. This approach requires time and happens largely in what we call "dark social"—the interactions and conversations that aren't easily tracked but are incredibly influential. Trust me, it's worth it. As a marketer working in a niche industry—collaborating with city builders and municipalities—I've learned that the true measure of success is in the relationships you build and the reputation you nurture over time.
