??Scientific paper: Temporal Irreversibility of Large-Scale Brain Dynamics in Alzheimer’s Disease Abstract: Healthy brain dynamics can be understood as the emergence of a complex system far from thermodynamic equilibrium. Brain dynamics are temporally irreversible and thus establish a preferred direction in time (i.e., arrow of time). However, little is known about how the time-reversal symmetry of spontaneous brain activity is affected by Alzheimer's disease (AD). We hypothesized that the level of irreversibility would be compromised in AD, signaling a fundamental shift in the collective properties of brain activity toward equilibrium dynamics. We investigated the irreversibility from resting-state fMRI and EEG data in male and female human patients with AD and elderly healthy control subjects (HCs). We quantified the level of irreversibility and, thus, proximity to nonequilibrium dynamics by comparing forward and backward time series through time-shifted correlations. AD was associated with a breakdown of temporal irreversibility at the global, local, and network levels, and at multiple oscillatory frequency bands. At the local level, temporoparietal and frontal regions were affected by AD. The limbic, frontoparietal, default mode, and salience networks were the most compromised at the network level. The temporal reversibility was associated with cognitive decline in AD and gray matter volume in HCs. New deep brain stimulation algorithm may help personalize Parkinson's disease treatment https://lnkd.in/dpRDMxrm Deep brain stimulation (DBS) has shown promise as a treatment for some symptoms of Parkinson s disease (PD). However, not all symptoms improve equally well with DBS. A better understanding of how different sites of electrical stimulation impact the wide range of motor symptoms associated with PD could help fine-tune treatment. By studying PD patients at five different centers treated with DBS, investigators created an atlas that mapped four major symptoms of PD onto different regions of the brain. Based on these findings, the team created an algorithm capable of generating personalized, symptom-specific DBS treatment plans, which they preliminarily tested in five patients.

Thus it may be able to provide a broad range of health benefits. Infrared therapy shows promise in the treatment of brain injuries by utilizing infrared light to penetrate the scalp and skull, reaching brain tissues without causing damage. Near-infrared light (NIR), in particular, has been explored for its ability to enhance cellular function and repair mechanisms. This light promotes increased blood flow and oxygenation, which are crucial for healing damaged brain tissues. Studies have indicated that infrared therapy can help reduce inflammation, minimize the extent of brain damage, and potentially improve cognitive function in individuals suffering from traumatic brain injuries (TBI), stroke, or neurodegenerative conditions. The non-invasive nature of infrared therapy, combined with its ability to target deep tissues, makes it a promising adjunctive treatment for improving brain function and reducing long-term complications following brain injury.
