Emelia Oware, a client, is a true pioneer developing a progressive school in Accra, Ghana. Her program focus is to “develop individual's capabilities... to move away from the status quo whilst building resilience to be changemakers and/or problem solvers. This is what Africa needs to transform our world." Today we walked through getting the right team together. You can't do this later. This is the ground they will walk on in all they do going forward. She said, "I never knew to think of these things. You are truly a blessing Joanna." Focusing on deeper, core work now will make all the difference in the trajectory in transforming lives.

?? What I’ve learnt about working with multicultural teams ?? The work of a development professional is dynamic- one day you are at a high level conference in South Africa and the next week you are meeting with community groups and kinsmen in the rural parts of South East Nigeria. Consistently working with diverse teams from various backgrounds is the norm. Here’s how I make it work: 1. Find a Common Language: that everyone can communicate with ease. Sometimes I speak pidgin in rural areas in Nigeria and English in international settings 2. Embrace Diversity: Avoid cultural bias and appreciate the richness different backgrounds bring. 3. Educate on Cultural Sensitivity:This reduces misunderstandings and helps team members navigate cultural differences. 4. Avoid Stereotypes: Focus on individuals, not assumptions. 5. Create a Safe Space: Ensure clear expectations and open, respectful communication for all. Last week, our team came together for our annual retreat where we celebrated a decade of impact in Nigeria. This 3- day retreat provided a powerful platform for reflection, learning, and strategic planning. Day 1 of the retreat, featured an engaging panel discussion with sector experts, PETER MANCHA , Idamwenhor ENAYABA , and Hauwa Kazeem who emphasized the critical need to strengthen our government stakeholder relationships, highlighted key areas for organizational growth, shared profound insights on aligning our goals with donor priorities, and emphasizing our role as an equitable intermediary for fostering grassroots impact. On Day 2 of the retreat, we were enriched by invaluable insights from Hussaini Abdu, PhD. , and Hansatu Adegbite who illustrated how a shared vision shapes institutional growth and guided us through crucial discussions on cultivating positive organizational culture. On Day 3, 'Kemi Okenyodo , led our regional expansion strategy sessions to map out our ambitious growth plans across Nigeria, while Halima Nuradeen shared practical strategies for achieving work-life balance through effective task prioritization. Looking ahead to 2025, we're committed to deepening our community impact with renewed strategic focus.
