Here's a writing tactic you might not have considered: (Prepare to be surprised!) Storytelling. Yes, storytelling. You might be wondering: "Isn't my aim to craft a professional post rather than spin a yarn?" True, but remember, not all stories are fictional. Let me share a personal example: Over the years, I've given numerous presentations → some in professional settings → others to community groups → and even more to my kids I particularly recall my time at a company that hosted an annual "Genius Day," where employees presented innovative ideas to drive the business forward. I won two consecutive years And while my product idea was solid, I attribute the real success to storytelling: ? → I didn't just talk about the product;? → I wove in narratives that involved our CEO, directors, our customers and my colleagues.? → It brought the presentation to life, made people laugh, and connected on a deeper level. Integrating storytelling into your posts can transform the content. ? This could be anything from: → Sharing a memorable interaction with a client → recounting the spark of inspiration behind your brand, or → illustrating a compelling before-and-after scenario of someone benefiting from your product. The possibilities are truly limitless. Always ensure your stories resonate with your readers and are relevant to the topic at hand. Humans are innately drawn to stories. It's our most ancient and engaging form of communication! P.S. Have you ever tried incorporating storytelling into your writing? #Storytelling #NarrativeInBusiness #BrandStorytelling #StoryDriven #EngagingContent #StoriesSell #EmotionalConnection #PowerOfStory #StorytellingTips #StoryMarketing

Confession: I've been quietly working on a book, which I hope will be ready for you in the next few months. And in discussion with a client recently about corporate storytelling, I realised it's something I've covered quite extensively in the book, so I thought I'd give you a sneak peek, and share some of that content. There’s no formula or boilerplate for great corporate storytelling. Much depends on who’s telling the story, who they’re talking to, and with what expectations. So here's a list of some of the hallmarks of effective storytelling, taken from my book. * A good story is simple. It is easy to understand, easy to relate to and not overly complicated. * A good story is complete. It has a beginning, a middle and an end. * A good story is moving. It needs to trigger some emotions in its audience. They need to feel something. How do you want them to feel afterwards? * A good story is genuine and true. Truth is essential – the last thing you want is to be outed for bending the truth. And it should reflect the true story of your brand, product or service. * A good story is relevant. Add value for the audience – don’t just tell an empty story. What will they get out of what you’re telling them? Why should they care? * A good story needs context, characters and action. These are the same requirements any other type of story has – a setting, people you are rooting for, and action. Something happens that disturbs the balance. Without that disruption, you don’t have a story. * Most importantly, a good story has a hero.

This Routine Transformed How I Approach Storytelling; As a storyteller, constantly feeding my mind with new ideas is crucial for staying creative. One routine that has completely changed my approach is reading at least one book a month. Here’s how it works: Different Genres: I don’t stick to one type of book. Whether it’s fiction, biographies, or marketing insights, every genre offers unique perspectives that shape my storytelling. It’s amazing how a novel can spark an idea for a brand campaign! Taking Notes: While I read, I jot down quotes and ideas that stand out. These notes serve as reference points when I’m working on new content. You’d be surprised how much inspiration you can gather from a single paragraph. Storytelling Practice: Reading fuels my creativity and helps me study storytelling techniques. I pay attention to how authors build suspense, develop characters, and convey emotions, applying these lessons to my work. Reading monthly has deepened my creativity and made my storytelling more impactful. What routine has transformed your approach to work? Let’s share some ideas!

I often see posts with headlines like "7 storytelling secrets for article writing ........." The secrets: - Use sub-headings - Use visual storytelling - Ensure content is actionable - Use analogies to explain complex concepts, etc. These are not secrets, they're tips. →It's not a secret if everyone knows it. →It's also not a secret if I can find it anywhere. →It's not a secret if everyone is talking about it. When people hear 'secrets,' they expect you to teach something new, something that'd be challenging to find anywhere. Or teach something from your personal experience, doesn't matter if there are other opinions out there. It counts as a secret because it's unique. But if you're teaching about practices one can find online, use a less clickbaity headline. Or better still, add a new perspective. Your unique angle, will add more value to readers than other blog posts with similar intent. PS: Repost ?? to help someone write better.

Storytelling is at the heart of great marketing. Back in 2020, we dove deep into the subject, determined to understand its impact in a business context. After hearing advice that “reading ten books on a topic makes you more knowledgeable than 99% of people,” we took that approach seriously. The result? Disappointing. Most books on storytelling simply rehash the same tired ideas: humans love stories, story arcs, Joseph Campbell, and so on. They rarely offer practical, engaging examples, which left us underwhelmed. But then, we discovered Storyworthy by Matthew Dicks—a standout in an ocean of generic advice. Recently, he released Stories Sell, tailored for a business audience. It’s one of the few resources that effectively bridges storytelling with real-world business needs. Highly recommend the audiobook too. When you understand how to tell the right story, the impact is undeniable. Knowing your audience and crafting the right message is the key to effective marketing and business communication. Simple insights can make all the difference.
