According to the National Center for Education statistics, while Texas has a larger percentage of Latino/as leading schools than at the national level, the percentage of Latino/a serving as school principals is still significantly lower than the percentage of Latino/a students in our schools. When we consider Latina school leaders in particular, research reported in the article, Marianismo and the changing role of Latinas in educational leadership, shows a "lack of affirmation, support, and mentorship which leads to the development of both conscious and unconscious self-doubt and imposter syndrome."
