Surgical site infections are a significant patient safety concern and an economic burden to the healthcare system. They're also difficult to prevent, despite the best efforts of surgical teams at the frontlines of care. Orthopedic companies are addressing the issue with coatings and treatments that prevent harmful bacteria from forming on the surfaces of implantable devices.
