Following beach seine sampling conducted on behalf of?Mowi Canada West in the Broughton Archipelago, BC, in 2024, the BC Salmon Farmers Association has argued that #salmonfarms do not drive #sealice levels on wild?#salmon. ? The data obtained from the wild juvenile #salmonid monitoring #program shows that the variability in the percentage of sea lice on wild Pacific salmon remains unchanged despite the removal of salmon farms in the area. ???? Emeritus Scientist of Fisheries and Oceans Canada / Pêches et Océans Canada Simon Jones: "This is an important finding, as it aligns with the #research and data on sea lice in #Canada. This week, NOAA Fisheries announced the withdrawal of a proposed revised vessel speed rule that would have limited speeds for more vessels and in new places across the habitat of the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale. Four whales, including two calves, died as the result of vessel strikes in 2024 alone. "In attempting to make everyone happy, the agency turned years of delay into an outright denial of the needs of a critically endangered species,” – Jane Davenport, our senior attorney. In partnership with Nipissing First Nation, we set nets in Lake Nipissing to collect fish population data such as length, weight, and age. ??
