FROM THE COAST TO THE MOUNTAINS If you have 30 minutes to spare, listen to the Happy Planet podcast where I speak about our journey in Aquaculture in Maine. Much time is devoted to our focus on sustainability – a necessity in developing new RAS facilities in the US today. Our close collaboration with the Penobscot Indian Nation is also a topic in the podcast. I also speak about our journey here in Maine. Although our previous company obtained all its permits, it had some fierce local opposition just like many other coastal projects. It is such a relief to be in a completely opposite position with our current company. Millinocket is a great place to develop a land-based RAS facility and we went through the permitting process in record time without any obstacles. I also want to emphasize that the regulators in Maine have been great to work with and the State has a strict but fair system with competent people. ?When asked if I had any advice, I focused on a few we try to live by every day: RESILIENCE?– Even when you feel like giving up after many sleepless nights– don′t!? RELATIONSHIPS?– build and cultivate relationships. It is easy to get a lot of supporters when things go well, but you also need friends when you meet challenges.? ROLES?– build a team that compliments each other and can take the company from a start-up to a thriving business. The cat’s out the bag! It’s wonderful to be launching Bramble Partners, a new investment firm dedicated to backing businesses that will change the food system for the better. Our current global food system is broken. Intensive methods of agriculture and food production have proved destructive to the environment and to human health. There is an urgent need for change. We're looking at Series A to growth-stage ventures, across the entire food system, from farm to fork. We focus on companies that increase healthy life-span, limit the damage the food system does to our environment and improve food security. There are some phenomenal new ventures popping up in this space. Our goal at bramble is to invest in these food system innovators and help them to grow. It’s a pleasure to be co founding this with Henry Dimbleby and Omar Habbal. We’ve been incubating this over the past year and are happy to finally share it with you.
