In a strategic move set to revolutionize helicopter pilot training in Europe, two of the continent’s largest helicopter pilot academies, European Helicopter Center (EHC) in Norway and HeliCentre in the Netherlands, have announced their merger. The combined entity will operate under the name European Heli Center Norway, retaining the strong legacies and expertise of both institutions. European Helicopter Center has trained over 800 pilots in its 30-year history, earning a stellar reputation and becoming the preferred training partner for numerous commercial players in Europe due to its outstanding safety record. Helicentre, with 15 years of experience, boasts a comprehensive training division, strong ties in both the civilian and military markets, and a significant operational and commercial department. Anette Kruhaug Haldorsen, CEO of European Helicopter Center, expressed her enthusiasm for the merger: “By pooling the strengths of the two companies, we can now present a larger combined helicopter fleet, even more specialized instructors, and a robust organization to provide our students and customers with the assurance that their training partner will remain relevant, professionally updated, and of course, a sustainable and safe choice.” The new European Heli Center will maintain two divisions, one in Norway (Torp) and one in the Netherlands (Lelystad). The majority ownership will be based in the Netherlands. Both departments will keep their separate ATO licenses and the AOC license in the Netherlands, ensuring continued service to both commercial and private markets. This merger signifies a powerful consolidation of expertise and resources, ensuring that European Heli Center will continue to lead in providing top-tier helicopter pilot training. #AvfoilNews #EuropeanHelicopterCenter #Helicentre #HelicopterTraining #PilotAcademy #AviationNews #FlightTraining #AviationSafety #SustainableAviation

Worst Nightmare: An Unexpected In-Flight Canopy Failure During her second aerobatic training flight in an Extra 330LX, the pilot experienced a rare and terrifying event when the aircraft’s canopy unexpectedly opened mid-air. The incident occurred at high speed, exposing the cockpit to intense wind pressure, significantly increasing drag, and creating a highly distracting situation. In the footage, she can be seen visibly distraught, struggling to maintain control of the aircraft while battling the wind and keeping her eyes open. This highlights the demanding physical and mental challenges pilots face in unexpected emergencies and also showcases the value of composure and training in managing unexpected situations. Thankfully, the pilot’s skills ensured safety despite this rare and challenging occurrence. Such an event underscores the need for rigorous preflight inspections, including canopy locks and latches, to avoid in-flight emergencies.

On November 19, a CargoJet 767-300 slid off the runway at YVR after declaring 'pan-pan' on approach. At the link is the recording of the radio traffic between the pilot, YVR ATC, and then other YVR entities including 'Red One', the YVR ARFF IC. Despite the potential for catastrophe, these professionals up in the air and on the ground handled this so calmly that it sounded like they'd done this sort of thing thousands of times before. And they had- they cultivated this level of competence and confidence over countless hours of professional development- flying school and firefighter academy to start their careers, in-service training, and real-world routine operations and occasional emergencies- to get to the point that they responded without emotion- no amygdala hijack here. It's hard to find bandwidth for emotion when your training and self-discipline forces you to totally commit to the task at hand. Train 'til you get it right....then train 'til you can't get it wrong. In omnia paratus- ready for anything. #YVR #panpan #mayday #CargoJet #aviation #Vancouver #crashrescue #ARFF #firefighter #airport #highreliabilityorganization #stressinnoculation #emergencyresponse #emergencymanagement #incidentcommand https://lnkd.in/gx5grJ_i
