Teacher success. Teacher retention. Two outcomes, one time-tested investment: strong mentorship. Hear from Rachel Baker, a mentor teacher specialist in Maryland’s CALVERT COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS, about how mentors validate teachers’ knowledge and expertise to foster their growth and commitment. “...it's crucial to have conversations with teachers, to ask for their input instead of telling them what to do. A mentoring conversation is about truly including them in a dialogue, so that it’s a partnership, a collaboration.” — Rachel Baker Learn more: https://ow.ly/QAP950SNw2U

Checking in for one of many ongoing DDI implementation visits I will conduct in 12 schools across two Colorado urban districts this year. I don’t want to train if implementation coaching is not included. Pro Tip: Teams must make a paradigm shift that DDI is not just about identifying unfinished learning in student knowledge/skills, it is about: ? Monitoring and upscaling the rigor of core instruction ? Idenitfying gaps in instruction

If you need a little positive energy, my 12-year-old just ran for student council and was elected class representative on the platform of CHAOS (control, habituality, accuracy, organization, synchronism)(also, lollll) They explained the tangible actions of their platform to me: they have identified a few specific problems that create pain and time waste for everyone at schoolc and they have a proposals either in the format of a technical solution, a set of agreements, or a process. I was like wow this is incredible, that’s exactly what I do at work! They were like it is effective everyone in my class voted for me! Parenting and mentorship is similar in this regard: modling desired behaviours/qualities/skills, fostering a safe environment with opportunities for those to flourish, and providing support where needed. Life is tricky and work can be joyless, but moments like these make it all worth it, and building the next generation of leaders and thinkers is what we are here for.

Trust-Based Observations transforms observations from a dreaded nonauthentic experience into joy. Think about it, teacher observations, of all things, can be joyful experiences where colleagues are engaging in collegial (and as you can see—joyful) conversations about teaching and learning and improving. Isn’t that what they ought to be?!?! Check out trustbased.com to learn more and maybe even bring the same joy to your school. TBO transforms culture—almost instantly, and leads to what John Hattie says about Trust-Based Observations, “TBO demonstrates collective teacher efficacy in action.” We empower leaders and teachers to embrace working together to grow. Why not use TBO to affect the largest effect size we have to improve student learning….We show you HOW; we help you build mastery of the TBO system on site at your school.
