We fear what we cannot control, and the weather is no exception. The effects of the torrential rain and flooding across southern and eastern Spain are truly terrifying, and this is just one of many extreme weather events in recent years. From record-breaking heatwaves to fatal storms, there seems to be a new battle with the elements somewhere in the world every week. We often see only tragedy and destruction in the headlines, with little evidence of hope. It is easy to feel helpless and at the mercy of something so uncontrollable, so when I came across the new exhibition Water is Coming at the Danish Architecture Center (Dansk Arkitektur Center) it was comforting to know that we don't have to accept this loss of life and constant state of rebuilding as our new reality. No amount of recycling and cutting of emissions is going to have an effect on the weather or sea levels in the short and mid term, and so the solution is to adapt our towns and cities to be able to cope with these extreme events. Water is Coming offers up current knowledge, bold visions, completed projects, extensive research, and historical perspectives on how we can live with rising sea levels and flooding, offering a small bit of solace in this time of distress. Get out to see it if you can and read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/e3JZjtJ3
