#sustainability #food #consumereducation #palmoil?? Who is Responsible for Educating Consumers? In today’s food industry, a significant gap exists between consumer understanding and the complex efforts producers make toward sustainability. Many are unaware of the rigorous standards producers follow—such as ending deforestation, supporting local farmers, ensuring ethical sourcing, and respecting human rights. Despite these efforts, consumers often misinterpret claims like “plant-based,” “vegan,” “non-GMO,” and “palm-free” as automatic indicators of sustainability or health, with little understanding of what these labels truly mean. For instance, palm oil is frequently criticized without consideration for its benefits when sustainably sourced. Palm oil is an exceptional ingredient with many benefits when sourced responsibly. It is essential to bridge this knowledge gap to support a more informed and responsible consumer base, benefiting both the industry and our shared commitment to a sustainable future. So, who should educate consumers? Producers, retailers, and educators all share responsibility. Clear labeling, accurate information, and open dialogue are crucial to fostering consumer awareness. This way, we can bridge the gap, allowing consumers to make informed, responsible choices. Let’s work together to promote transparency, informed choices, and a sustainable future—because when consumers understand the journey from farm to shelf, everyone benefits. With passion ?? for the food industry and the world of ingredients, let’s work together to promote understanding and responsible consumption.

Did you know that approximately?1/3 of all food produced globally?is wasted? That’s about?1.3 billion tons?of food each year! ?? Food waste is a pressing global issue, and it occurs at various stages of the food supply chain. ???? Production: Estimates suggest that about 30% of food is lost during production?due to factors like pests, diseases, and adverse weather conditions. Farmers may also discard crops that don’t meet aesthetic standards, even if they are perfectly edible. ?? Processing: During processing, food can be lost due to inefficiencies, equipment malfunctions, or spoilage. It's estimated that around?10% of food is wasted?at this stage. Improving processing methods and reducing overproduction can help mitigate this waste. ?? Distribution: Transportation and storage issues lead to significant waste, especially in developing countries. Roughly?15% of food is wasted?during distribution due to inadequate infrastructure, temperature control, and handling practices. ?? Retail: Retailers often face challenges with unsold inventory, leading to an estimated?5-10% of food waste?at grocery stores. This includes expired products and items that do not meet visual standards. Implementing better inventory management and donation programs can help reduce this waste. ?? Consumption: Consumers are responsible for the largest share of food waste, accounting for about?40%?of the total. This occurs due to over-purchasing, misunderstanding expiration dates, and lack of meal planning. Simple actions like meal prepping and understanding food labels can make a significant difference. By understanding where food waste occurs in the supply chain, we can take targeted actions to reduce it and create a more sustainable future, from production till consumption. Let’s work together to make a difference! ?? https://lnkd.in/d7BC3mTj #FoodWaste #Sustainability #FoodChain

?? ?? ?? How can we make the global, multi billion dollar food industry more sustainable? The food industry is enormous; and it’s critical to human existence. But transporting from farm to fork also means an enormous and very complex supply chain, so identifying and implementing sustainability in this system is challenging. The World Economic Forum has identified several points to focus on in integrating sustainability into worldwide food systems; they highlight the need for introducing sustainability and innovation into every point of the journey –? ‘from raw materials to the point of delivery.’ We’re stepping up with recyclable, reusable temperature control solutions specifically for chilled and frozen food, improving efficiency and reducing waste – and costs. https://lnkd.in/eHFmHgVq https://lnkd.in/eM9Wztzt #FoodSystems #SustainableColdchain #TCP #SustainablePackaging #FoodRetail #FrozenFood #ChilledPackaging #FrozenPackaging #TemperaturecontrolledPackaging
