Last week C40 Cities was in Chicago with Climate Mayors and Urban Sustainability Directors Network (USDN) to lead a Catalyzing Local Climate Action Workshop with Mayor Brandon Johnson, Commissioner Angela Tovar, and the great City of Chicago staff. We were hosted by the incredible Naomi Davis and Blacks in Green in the historic neighborhood of Woodlawn. Over the course of 3 days we brought together city, county and state officials with community leaders to think BIG about how to use the historic funding ?? from the #InflationReductionAct to tackle climate change, lower energy bills, build resilient communities, and create good, green jobs. Mayor Johnson in kicking off the workshop charged all of the attendees to think beyond business as usual - and we did! We closed the workshop with a powerful tour of West Woodlawn where we visited the future site of the Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley House and learned about Blacks in Green's vision for a Sustainable Square Mile. This was the 2nd in our series of workshops supported by the The Rockefeller Foundation - I am looking forward to heading to Los Angeles, Jacksonville, Boise, and Knoxville in the coming months.
