This week's edition of #FundAfterschool focuses on Career and Technical Education (CTE)! For students in elementary through high school, more than 80% of their time is spent learning outside of traditional school settings, whether that’s in afterschool and summer programs, libraries, museums, science centers, at home, or in the community. That’s where CTE can play a critical role: linking school and out-of-school learning and helping prepare young people for their future. Check out the quick facts and learn more about how and where to apply for funding! https://lnkd.in/eZehYQpB

How did we make this college success program NOT feel like yet another course? We tapped program alums, now young professionals in the field, to share their post-program journeys. Scholars felt seen, supported, and inspired for the road ahead. When you're developing a course at your organization, how do you bring your community into the process?

Financial Literacy has never been more important than before, and the unfortunate reality is that many public school curriculums do not currently provide the roadmap for students to be financially responsible by the time they turn 18. I’m looking forward to partnering with Motivate Our Minds beginning later this month by offering weekly financial literacy to students ranging K-5. Planting the seeds of financial success early in development will set these kids up for success! https://lnkd.in/eZCTW-nf

Public Education’s Death Saves: A Dungeons & Dragons Satire “Education reforms often feel like a screen door on a submarine because they are designed without input from those who understand the classroom’s complexities.” Ah, the glorious meat grinder of public education! Let us don our armor of cynicism and wade into this hopeless battle, shall we? For those unfamiliar with the concept, picture a Dungeons & Dragons campaign designed by a sadistic dungeon master with a penchant for futility and a dash of Kafka. Now, let's delve into the absurdist hellscape that is modern public education. **Prelude: Welcome to the Abattoir of Dreams** Gather 'round, dear readers, as we embark on a journey through the halls of our esteemed public schools - a labyrinth so fiendishly designed that Daedalus himself would weep with envy. Our protagonists? The beleaguered teachers, those quixotic fools who still believe they can make a difference. Little do they know, they're merely lambs to the slaughter in this grand farce we call education reform. “The lack of trust in teachers, students, and families has led to reforms that prioritize control and standardization over genuine learning and growth.” **Act I: The Gates of Avernus (Sponsored by Gates and Microsoft)** https://lnkd.in/g7BHwvY9

Saint Joseph’s centers and institutes are a nexus between classroom and community. It’s where disciplines collide, where students and faculty come together to solve real-world problems, and where Hawks embed themselves within the community. Through research, service, educational programming and more, these entities generate new knowledge, redefine their fields and play a critical role in the Jesuit mission of Saint Joseph’s University. Everybody's seen the headlines that the pandemic affected a number of young people. It's almost like a lost year, and now, when you look back at test scores, they continue to tick down. Part of that is the pandemic. Part of that is that the education system isn't designed to teach to individual students. It's a one-size-fits-all solution. To talk about that today is William C. Campbell III, the founder of Dallas Academix Hub.?
