It's Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Awareness Week. We want to recognize the huge impact of cancer on our campers. A diagnosis often means missing out on critical milestones like school, extracurriculars, and first jobs. Plus, it can have a massive physical and emotional impact. That’s why we offer year-round Teen & Leadership programs during this critical developmental phase. In a recent AYA survey, 98% believe that attending camp after their diagnosis made them feel less isolated as a child with cancer. Join us in observance of Black Family Cancer Awareness Week! This year marks the 4th annual Black Family Cancer Week. This week, we stand together to raise awareness, empower communities, and promote health equity in the fight against cancer within Black families. Cancer affects us all, but the impact on Black communities can be particularly profound due to disparities in access to healthcare, screening, and treatment. The initiative started as a week-long social media campaign to increase cancer awareness in one of the most vulnerable demographics of the US population. In the US, Black individuals have the highest cancer death rate for most leading cancer types. National Black Family Cancer Awareness Week is an effort to raise awareness about this disparity and to highlight the importance of family cancer history, prevention, screening, and clinical trials. At EmpowHERto, we're committed to breaking down barriers and fostering a culture of health and support.
