?? Breaking News: Reproductive Rights Groups Sue Louisiana Over New Controlled Substances Law ?? In a powerful stand for reproductive healthcare, a coalition of reproductive rights organizations has filed a lawsuit against Louisiana’s new law that classifies mifepristone and misoprostol as controlled substances. This law complicates access to essential medications widely used not only for abortion but also for managing postpartum hemorrhage, miscarriage, and other critical health needs. As maternal health disparities persist, particularly for Black women in Louisiana, the need for accessible, life-saving care has never been more urgent. This lawsuit highlights the growing fight to protect healthcare access and ensure that no person is denied timely, essential treatment. "Restricting access to these medications doesn’t just undermine reproductive rights—it endangers lives," advocates argue. This case is about more than medicine—it’s about our collective commitment to health equity, patient safety, and the protection of our communities. ?? This was a moving, troubling, and inspiring session with defenders of reproductive rights in the U.S. and globally. Out of their experiences, a few clear rules for all of us: ?????????No Anticipatory Compliance: Do not preemptively self-censor, self-limit, or otherwise comply to anticipated restrictions on your organization or community. ????????“Defiant Compliance”: If you are currently facing new restrictions, do what must to survive: follow the letter of the law and not an inch more. #reproductivejustice #reproductiverights #GlobalGagRule

Please join The Brookings Institution Institution conversation today on the impact of the U.S. election on abortion and sexual and reproductive rights domestically and as U.S. foreign policy, which we know will be extreme. We're braced for an expanded version of the Global Gag Rule - which MSI Reproductive Choices will not sign - a potential defunding of reproductive health and family planning programs, including United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and World Health Organization, and the imposition of the Geneva Consensus Declaration as a driver of U.S. foreign policy. If they follow through with their Project 2025 vision for reproductive health, we will face a broadly destabilized multilateral system and constrained services in countries around the world. I hope you can join today's conversation. https://lnkd.in/eqAhFkut

Following Gov. Murphy’s second-to-last State of the State address, we express our deep gratitude for his steadfast commitment to reproductive health and rights, including his efforts to ensure access to abortion and birth control in the state. As our country prepares to reckon with an anti-reproductive freedom federal administration, we warn legislators not to rest on their laurels and urge the New Jersey Legislature to act swiftly to ensure the state’s commitment to reproductive health remains unwavering. The Reproductive Freedom and Health Equity Bill Package includes key provisions aimed at expanding access to reproductive health services, ensuring comprehensive care for all New Jerseyans, and providing protections against potential federal rollbacks of reproductive rights. The legislation is an essential step in securing the future of reproductive freedom in New Jersey, particularly as challenges to reproductive health rights continue to grow nationwide. The 2024 Nurx Reproductive Rights Watch Report is out, and it paints a sobering picture of the state of reproductive healthcare in the U.S. From increased restrictions to widening disparities in access, this report highlights the significant barriers women face in obtaining the care they need. The data shows that policies continue to limit access to essential healthcare services, disproportionately affecting women in underserved communities. For example, 18 states have implemented total or near-total abortion bans, and over 30 million women live in areas with limited access to reproductive health services. At Visana Health, we believe that every woman should have access to high-quality, comprehensive care, regardless of where she lives or her circumstances. This report reinforces the urgency of our mission - to deliver innovative, virtual-first solutions that break down barriers to care and support women’s health from menstruation through menopause. As the fight for reproductive rights intensifies, we stand alongside women, advocating for healthcare that is accessible, equitable, and centered on their needs. "There is an inseparable link between maternal health and reproductive health care. To help mothers thrive and families flourish, we must recognize that they are both essential to women’s health and well-being." The The David and Lucile Packard Foundation recently published an article about why they view maternal health and reproductive rights as two issues that are equally important to the wellbeing of pregnant people- not as competing interests. We are seeing this de-siloing of maternal health and reproductive rights in our own work supporting the State of Birth Equity Initiative where we help funders explore collaborative opportunities to advance birth equity in their states. Reproductiverights.gov, a government site outlining women’s reproductive rights under federal law, was suddenly taken down. Originally launched after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, this site served as a source of guidance on abortion, contraception, and access to reproductive healthcare. Its removal leaves a gap in key health information for women at a time of fear and uncertainty. You deserve to know your rights. The information previously hosted on reproductiverights.gov is now available through Nurx at https://lnkd.in/eHE3aZDv. ?? Note: This content reflects the information as it appeared on reproductiverights.gov on January 15, 2025, when it was last archived by WaybackMachine. While we have adapted references to previous administrations for clarity, the underlying content remains unchanged. It is critical to consult local laws and regulations, as guidance may vary based on jurisdiction.
