When you are developing Life Sciences real estate for the future generations-built for sustainability and longevity- what factors are most important? Our CEO Wilkingson (Will) Germain, along with Greg Capps, Kipton Currier, Keith Switzer, AIA, Abhishek Dhawan, and Aaron Altman were on a panel at the BisNow Mid-Atlantic BioTech Summit on Wednesday, April 24th in Rockville, MD. The panel explored what sets DC/MD/VA apart from other areas that make it unique for Life Sciences development, what investments are being made in infrastructure to ensure the region remains competitive, and how life sciences buildings can be future-proofed. Healthy debate of these topics will illuminate a path forward in the development and success of Life Sciences in our region.

Congratulations to Dr. Kim Kutsch on the 20th anniversary of CariFree! ??? Here's a snippet from an interview with him discussing the origins of CariFree: Products with ingredients like nano HA, sodium hypochlorite, and elevated pH weren’t on anyone’s radar 20 years ago in the US. What made you realize that these were necessary ingredients for cavity prevention? "The science was all there. I had used the existing gold standard approach and didn’t get the outcomes I was looking for. So, understanding the science, I worked on combining strategies to create products that provide as much range of benefit as possible. pH is foundational but adding fluoride and nano-HA and xylitol provides even better benefit. And sodium hypochlorite combined with these ingredients offered great antimicrobial treatment along with the benefits of all of the other strategies combined. Often times by combining multiple strategies in single easy to use products, the total benefit is greater than the sum of the parts. Why use fluoride alone when we know that fluoride plus xylitol is even better. The same with nano-HA, adding fluoride increases the benefit. So combining as many science supported ingredients as possible just makes logical sense." Thank you, Dr. Kutsch, for creating a product that has improved the health of so many people!

The use of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in exhaled breath as biomarkers for human health and disease offers a promising, non-invasive diagnostic tool that has the potential to transform clinical practice. Laura will be discussing how thermal desorption can be used to: - extend the dynamic range for breath analysis - generate pooled biological quality control samples that can be used for proficiency testing and longitudinal studies - easily address the high sample volumes generated from large scale breath analysis studies #BreathResearch, #Breathomics, #ThermalDesorptionWithoutCompromise

Honored to Present at the Second International Congress on Far UV Science and Technology! Last month, I had the privilege of presenting and participating in this groundbreaking event. Far UV light shows great promise in inactivating airborne pathogens with minimal impact on occupants. https://lnkd.in/gbEktu9M Key discussion points included: Safety and Efficacy: Far UVC (222nm) does not penetrate the skin, avoiding sunburn and eye irritation. Research shows only the outermost eye tissue cells, those about to shed, are affected by 222nm exposure. Ozone Concerns: While 222nm light produces ozone, a proposed mitigation strategy combines higher power "upper air" 254nm light with 222nm "down lighting." The net result from 254nm ozone reduction would produce ozone levels below typical outdoor air levels. Benefit-Risk Analysis: With 80 years of experience using 254nm upper air systems, the secondary chemistry effects seem minor compared to the potential benefits. The question has been called: A thorough benefit-risk analysis is needed to determine if this technology should move forward in our fight against airborne diseases like COVID-19 and TB. Looking forward to the next Congress in Colorado next summer, where we hope to make more definitive progress!
