The ALCA team is starting to arrive in Sydney off the back of the Katoomba Group’s Real Value for Nature event, and ahead of the Global Nature Positive Summit and ALCA’s national conference. It’s a significant week for nature, and indeed a big month ahead for biodiversity with the International Land Conservation Network’s?Global Congress, followed by COP16 the United Nations?Biodiversity Conference?(COP16). The Summit, the Conference, Congress and COP16 come at a crucial time. Biodiversity loss is?one of the biggest risks?the world faces in the next decade, and whilst the challenge of turning this around is a big one, it’s not insurmountable – if we act now, and act together. We’re hopeful and excited for the week ahead, and we’re here to ensure that private land conservation is recognised as a critical pathway and delivery agent for nature action and investment. ALCA and its members will be active across plenary, breakout, exhibit and innovation hub areas at the Summit, and then we hope to see you at PLC24 to build on the Summit discussions and ground them in action. #GlobalNaturePositiveSummit #PLC24 #NatureNow

Representatives from nearly 200 countries will convene in Cali, Colombia from October 21 to November 1 for COP16 of the U.N. Convention on Biodiversity. This crucial conference aims to advance the Global Biodiversity Framework, setting ambitious targets to halt the unprecedented decline of species worldwide. With over 1 million species at risk of extinction, action is more urgent than ever.?The Framework aims to protect 30% of land and sea by 2030, restore degraded ecosystems, and ensure that conservation decisions are inclusive and just. Latin America, home to 40% of global biodiversity, faces significant threats, especially in the Amazon.?It's vital that countries not only commit to these goals but also secure the necessary funding to support them. #COP16Colombia took stock of the remarkable progress on the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Since 2022, 119 countries have submitted national biodiversity targets to help reach the its 23 global goals, with 44 countries finalizing action plans to guide implementation. As countries work towards these targets, delegates emphasized the urgency of accelerating action to protect our planet.
