2016 ELECTORAL COLLEGE DEBACLE IGNORED Interesting move given the political circumstances of the 2024 election & what was learned or not learned from 2016. The political calculation from Dem brain trust must be: The Midwest-Rust Belt voters (46 EC votes from wi, mi, pa) that went Trump in 2016 because of CPP1-War on Coal will not see that a Revised PM 2.5 is focused on industry overall (coal & all other). If Trump & his advisors see Revised PM 2.5 for what it is (legal or not) Trump’s 2024 War Cry wil be that Revised PM2.5 is a War on American Industry. IMHO this is a blunderous decision by Biden on the basis of faulty analysis by his climate-environment brain trust. No question this gets Biden votes in MA, CA etc etc but it could ‘da killa’ in the rust belt. Take this to the bank. If Trump wins those 46 EC votes in 2024, for reasons similar to but potentially more compelling than those of 2016, the alleged Insurrectionest, will become Trump47.
I guess @EPA decided not to listen to the political advisors who suggested EPA hold off on this rule until after the 2024 elections. SCOTUS would pretty much have to overrule Justice Scalia to strike this rule down.
