Our COO, Rudi Schmidt, will speak at the 15th Annual Drug Discovery Forum in Berlin about "What Real-World Data from #aging research can teach us for #AI-based precision medicine in #drug development." #Drugdevelopment faces high attrition rates, and the reproducibility and translatability of preclinical findings to human applications are still limited, resulting in a low return on investment in terms of clinical impact. In his presentation Rudi will focus on how to overcome these challenges and the translational discordance #realworlddata from research in aging and #longevity. Summarizing the latest publications he will outline several conclusions, for example, on state-of-the-art model-informed drug development (MIDD) that combines real-world data of physiology, pharmacology, and disease processes during aging with #artificialintelligence. ? Decades of research using genetic and molecular biology tools have unlocked several hallmarks of aging. At the same time, our understanding of embryonic development and cell growth has considerably improved. The mechanisms and pathways related to aging can be targeted for lifestyle as well as for drug interventions. EI Cure Project UK is pleased to announce the start of our SECOND Gene-Editing Research Project! ?? This is a 2-year Post-Doctoral Research Project led by Professor Wei-Li Di of UCL and Professor Gill Elliot from University of Surrey, UK. This Preclinical research aims to develop a topical gene-therapy for the treatment of Congenital Ichthyosis using engineered virus-like particles (eVLPs). This is quite a novel approach to gene-editing in the field of genodermatoses, but Professor Elliot has extensive knowledge of eVLPs and is optimistic that the success seen in other diseases is transferable to skin. We are very excited to combine Professor Wei-Li Di’s experience of ichthyosis with Professor Gill Elliot’s expertise with eVLPs. The hope is the realisation of a truly non-invasive topical treatment for congenital ichthyosis.
