Technology vs common sense Yesterday, I experienced firsthand the impacts of great technology without H.I (Human Intelligence.) I was at the BP hand car wash dutifully washing my wife's car (Insert brownie points here) Her car? A nice new Hyundai Tucson - packed with all the features. Our favourite? The boot automatically opens when you stand behind it for 4 seconds. Super handy when you've come back from the shops, holding multiple bags. Washing a car though? Well... you can probably guess the rest!! Picture a guy in panic mode, holding a foaming brush, frantically trying to press every button to slow the impending catastrophe. It didn't work. The boot was wide open, I had foam all over me, couldn't find the keys... I finally pressed the close button from the boot itself. What lessons did a soggy wet Ryan learn? 1. Technology doesn't always improve the User Experience 2. Common sense will always prevail against A.I. 3. Your wife may still tell you off even when you're trying to do a nice thing. 4. The issues of perception, power, and range remained challenging for the industry, but last night's spectacle shows just how far we've come in such a short space of time. In many instances, electric vehicles (#EVs) have not only caught up to but also exceeded their fossil fuel-powered equivalents. From the everyday commuter to the A-list celebrity, #ElectricVehicles (EVs) are now a feasible choice because of developments in #battery technology, design, and infrastructure. It's a sign of the times, an unambiguous statement that electric is not just the future; it’s the present. Cruise's choice to go electric during the ceremony underscores a broader trend that’s sweeping across the globe. The move to sustainable transport is picking up steam, and it's fascinating to watch the sector go from the?fringes?to the?mainstream. What was previously regarded as new or often?a compromise is now regarded as a superior substitute, demonstrating that anything is possible if enough creativity and dedication are put into something. For the entire electric vehicle industry, this is a significant milestone rather than merely a clever trick at a major international event. It showcases the amazing progress we've made in just a short space of time and the amazing potential that electric vehicles have to completely change our planet. This is very exciting news, and one of the proudest moments in my three years at evee evee is now a certified B Corp! Today, my two worlds combine. As a B Consultant for the region, it was inevitable that evee would go down the path towards certification. But I didn't realise how much more I would learn along the way. It's a different experience to be on the client-side for once! I'm immensely proud of the culture that Slava Kozlovskii and I have created, and the positive impact that we're having as a business - using the B Corp framework to measure our impact and continuously push ourselves to have the best outcome for our team, communities and the planet. It's been a lot of work over the last 12 months, and it really has been a team effort. Special shout-outs to Vivien Friedrich and Louella Carr - our B Keepers! Who have immersed themselves in the impact world, creating ground-breaking policies that provide better equity for our team and help us show up as an environmental ally. Creating a framework for tracking the CO2 emissions we're saving through our service. And identifying which environmental charities we can support that share our mission. Other things which I'm immensely proud of that we have implemented during this process: - Menstrual Leave Policy, to support employees impacted by the symptoms of menstruation and menopause - Supplier Impact Survey, to track and improve the impact and diverse ownership of our supply chain - Learning & Development budget for all staff, to continue our investment in their growth - Compassionate Leave Policy that includes companion animals, as “family” may look different for some people - Flexible work hours to accommodate our team’s lives outside of work & our different working styles - Offsetting our company’s carbon emissions with trace to become a carbon neutral organisation And this is only the beginning. We are committed to improving our impact year on year. And we won't stop until we meet our vision of a world powered by Net Zero transport.
