Friday Thoughts: What CES Teaches Us About Innovation (and Absurdity) It’s CES week, and while I’m not attending this year, I can’t help but scroll through the highlights (and lowlights) with equal parts awe and amusement. On one side, you’ve got jaw-dropping advancements: AI-powered cars, foldable screens, and smart tech that feels like it’s straight out of a sci-fi movie. On the other, there’s always that one product that leaves you asking, “Did we really need a Wi-Fi-enabled egg carton?” But that’s the beauty of CES—it’s a masterclass in innovation and risk-taking. For every idea that soars, there’s one that flops. And yet, both are necessary. They remind us that progress is built on bold thinking, relentless experimentation, and occasionally, a healthy dose of absurdity. Skipping CES this year means missing out on the energy, the over-the-top launches, and the chance to try gadgets you never knew you needed (or didn’t). But it also gives me perspective: Innovation isn’t just in Vegas. It’s in every team meeting, brainstorming session, and decision to take a chance on something new—even if it’s a little crazy. What’s the most surprising or funniest thing you’ve seen from CES this year? Let’s end the week with some inspiration (and maybe a laugh). #CES2025 #Innovation #FridayThoughts

@CES 2025 is here! Almost twenty years ago I had the privilege of hearing Jim Collins (author of #goodtogreat) speak at the ISPA - International SPA Association Conference. One statement struck me deeply and changed the trajectory of my career: “If you’re not a technology company today, you will be tomorrow. And if you don’t become one, you’ll be dead.” That quote is from almost 20 years ago. It sparked my shift from operating exclusively in brick-and-mortar businesses to exploring the immense value of data, what I now see as the treasure trove every business sits on. Over the years, I’ve embraced technology to transform operations, enhance customer experiences, and drive innovation in industries ranging from wellness to SaaS. Fast forward to #CES 2025, and Kinzie Fabrizio’s words couldn’t ring truer: “Every company is a tech company now, and CES reflects that reality.” Today, as technology continues to blur the lines between industries, I’m reminded of the importance of foresight and adaptability. Businesses that harness their data and align with emerging tech trends are the ones that thrive. Can’t wait to see all the new traction and products coming out of CES this year!

CES WAS… OVERWHELMING BUT AWESOME! ? I haven’t been back to #CES in almost a decade and when I returned this year, I was both surprised and not surprised by many different things.?Special thanks to the Consumer Technology Association for hosting myself and the SUBTA (Subscription Trade Association). ? We filmed a TON of awesome interviews that I’ll be sharing more over the next few weeks but in the meantime, here’s my quick hit list of take-away’s… ? – The show is SO BIG.?I remember it taking over the entire Convention Center and a bit of the Venetian, but now it takes over ALL of the Venetian as well as ALL of the Aria (and more I missed at other venues too I’m sure).?It’s WILD how big it is and absolutely impossible to see it all as one person. – There were significantly more women than I had ever seen there before.?I actually remarked to Chris Chambers on our way there that it is 99% male (since this is what I remembered from 2013) and I was completely incorrect.?As a father of two daughters that I am constantly encouraging to be tech-focused in their future careers, I was so happy to see that when they attend in the future they will find more comfort in their peers. – We’re still celebrating innovation in television sets.?Some just seem the same as they did a decade ago. – Delta Air Lines had an AMAZING keynote at the Sphere (albeit about 20-minutes too long).?They treated all attendees to free snacks and beverages and had announcement after announcement of some fun things to come.?Their AI concierge being the most innovative which is still a few years out.?Then Lenny Kravitz performed and that was pretty sweet. – Of course, AI was the most widely talked about topic followed by robotics and VR.?I was super sad to arrive a few hours too late and missed the NVIDIA keynote, but that was definitely a highlight.?We’re about to enter the coolest era of our lifetime. ? There’s so much more, but I learned my lesson on taking notes along the way rather than taking a few days to decompress and then try and remember it all.?I definitely plan to be back next year and you should join too!

I’ve recently returned from this year’s CES conference in Las Vegas where the sheer pace of tech innovation could be felt in full force. From robots that solve real-world problems to AI’s presence in almost every single prototype or concept, it’s clear that the way we live, work and experience the world is shifting in every way. One of the best parts of CES for me is catching up with our clients. Having worked together for over 10 years, it was great to witness the unveil of Samsung’s “AI for all” vision which aims to make AI an ‘everyday, everywhere experience’. In 2024, we delivered a UK roadshow promoting their Galaxy AI capabilities and can’t wait to embrace ‘AI for All’ in the Retailer landscape in 2025 and beyond. Another of our long-standing clients, HP, won a Best of CES Innovation Award for their HP Z Captis, a groundbreaking tool to redefine digital material capture and further blur the lines between physical and digital design. Just awesome. And of course, Pure Electric continue to pave the way for sustainable urban mobility - and their McLaren partnership colours really do stand out from the crowd. As a lighthouse business, Blue Square is constantly pushing to revolutionise the Retailer landscape and bring brands closer to their customers through people, technology and data insight - CES has given us some serious inspiration for our Retailer vision - we can’t wait to get cracking. Is it still worth attending CES, show of hands? The Experience:? Given the scale of CES today, do the logistics dampen the magic? The Sustainability:? Is it responsible to fly 100,000 people in and out when we could host a virtual?version of CES with agencies hosting watch parties. The Clients: Since we're all about business outcomes, should?we ask our clients if they'd rather have $100,000 shaved off their fee than applied to the tech version of a golf trip. The Insights: When all of LinkedIn posts a million versions of the same trends and insights, what did anybody really?learn from CES that can add value for them and their clients. I know we all love a little IRL?showmanship, but there has to be a better way of sharing cutting edge tech...than a trade show...in Las Vegas. It all reminds me of one of the many great lines from the movie "Good Will Hunting," where Matt Damon's character says: "You dropped $150,000 on an education you coulda' got from the public library for a buck fifty in late charges." #CES2025 #Growth #D2C #CMOStrategies #DigitalExperience #MarketingROI #IndieAgencies #DigitalMarketing #CES #HigherEd

CES is Weird and That’s Why I Love It There’s something truly special about CES. It’s where the unexpected thrives, and the line between quirky and genius gets delightfully blurry. From gadgets you didn’t know you needed, to tech innovations that make you stop and rethink what’s possible, CES is a playground for creativity and bold ideas. In this video, I'm diving into some of the most bizarre, imaginative, and downright fun creations on display. Because sometimes, the best innovations are the ones that dare to be a little weird. Join me in celebrating the unconventional and maybe even spotting the next big thing. #NonObviousThinking #CES2025 #Innovation #TechTrends #WeirdTech CES NonObvious Solutions LLC
