That's us blushing. #GreenvilleSC is featured in The Economist this week. Our entrepreneurs and our City are highlighted in the article, "America is in the midst of an extraordinary startup boom. How the country revived its go-getting spirit." The international magazine, headquartered in London, found Greenville through its U.S Economics Editor. Simon Rabinovitch flew in on a beautiful day last week. While sitting in Falls Park, he spoke with the founders of Incora Health about their women's health-tracking earrings that are currently in clinical trials. He interviewed the founder of Supermoon while walking the trail and lunching at the Commons. Rabinovitch stopped by City Hall to chat with Mayor Knox White about how Greenville has become more than a tourist destination. He also met with our economic development partners including Village Launch, The Hill Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Furman University and NextGEN. Here's one of our favorite sections from the article, but we've linked it below if you want to read the whole thing. (Because it talks A LOT about Greenville) "Traditionally, American innovation has been focused in California’s Bay Area and urban dynamos such as Austin and New York. The new wave has fanned out to smaller cities around the country, from Boise to Raleigh. Greenville is another example. Better known for its genteel pace and walkable downtown than a striving business culture, it is an unlikely candidate to be a cradle of entrepreneurship. In the past few years, though, its livability has been a selling point, as remote work has taken off. Smallness can also be an advantage." https://lnkd.in/e5S_U2JA Thanks, Simon Rabinovitch for trusting us when we said, you gotta be in Greenville to get Greenville. Thanks, Bob King Landscapes for the new photo of our beautiful city.

The World's Mayor| Award-Winning Producer & Show Host | International Bestselling Author | Advocate for Media Literacy & Empowering Underserved Communities
#PopulationControl and the Path to a Sustainable Future In this thought-provoking clip from Unveiling the Future, hosts Joshua T Berglan and Jeff Barnes delve into the concept of population control and its implications for personal autonomy and financial freedom. They discuss alternative terms such as "demographic management" and "population stabilization" and explore the idea of creating planned communities, just like Irvine, California. Irvine, a master-planned community in California, serves as a prime example of progressive planning principles. From the 1960s, projects like Victor Gruen's Laguna Niguel, Smith and Williams' California City, and Edwards Durell Stone's Foster City demonstrated a new way of thinking about suburban development. However, there's a price to pay for progress. The example of early master-planned communities like Reston and Columbia shows that without proper planning, these projects can face bankruptcy. Don't miss out on this essential discussion on the #FutureOfSociety. Watch the full episode on Joshua T Berglan's website. https://lnkd.in/gYkKc9ia #UnveilingTheFuture #PopulationControl #MasterPlannedCommunities #Entrepreneurship #Investing

Startup Founder (2x - 1 Exit) | Promoting US LatAm Trade through Inclusive FinTech | Entrepreneurship Consultant | Kite Surfer
As a Detroit native and founder, it's amazing to see how much the city has transformed through entrepreneurship. I moved back in mid 2022 with my family from South America after 15 years living outside the US. I joined Plug and Play Detroit in part as a way of giving back to the entrepreneurship community. Since 2020, Plug and Play?has worked alongside Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council, Stellantis, BorgWarner, TREMEC and many other ecosystem players to create an open innovation platform and promote economic development. We brought over 150 startups to the Detroit Auto Show, promoted diverse startups through our batches, ran monthly mobility meetups with MICHauto and facilitated proof of concepts between startups and corporations. Companies have saved millions on research and development costs. More importantly, these initiatives?have resulted in partnerships and follow on investments for dynamic startups like Vehya, Voltpost, and HAAS Alert - many who have chosen to hire and build in Detroit. While we are known for corporate innovation, it is our collaboration with Michigan Economic Development Corporation and support from local governments that has enabled our success. Bring main street, downtown, & the local economy back to life with small-scale manufacturing. CEO of Recast City.
Does your local economic development strategy feel like it is left over from the 80's? I loved the big hair bands and leg warmers as much (or more) than any other 80's kid, but I don't want my economic development strategy leftover from then. Here's 3 signs that you might need a refresh: https://lnkd.in/gW_sfXj

?? Indiana's Tech Revolution: Fueling Growth through the Right to Start Act and Innovation! ???? Here's the latest from #Indiana State Representative Jake Teshka as he sheds light on the tech-driven economic resurgence of Indiana???? Indiana is primed for a huge step forward driven by embracing technology — we must not hold ourselves back…In the 2024 legislative session, I am authoring legislation that supports the Right to Start national framework by encouraging the facilitation of new business creation throughout the state, and building a culture of entrepreneurship. Read more in the South Bend Tribune about how this legislation will give more business to new and young companies, provide funding to new entrepreneurs, and track entrepreneurial data: https://lnkd.in/ebVcpWPr Research shows that for every 1% increase in the entrepreneurship rate, the poverty rate decreases by 2%. Since Victor W. Hwang founded Right to Start, 15 state legislatures have introduced more than 40 pieces of legislation inspired by our policy recommendations. Much of this is due to the incredible leadership of our Chief Government Affairs Officer, Jason Grill. #LetUsStart #entrepreneurship
