A lot of what has happened in the short 8 weeks, almost eight weeks I've been involved in the program has changed my life since May. The MYWE program is so important to me and the community because it helps young scholars experience having their first jobs and getting them ready for working at real jobs in the world. MYWE is really important to our community because a lot of kids do not know how to even do an application or even an interview. And MYWE helped me learn how to apply for a job, how I should dress for success. Also meet new people that can help us succeed in life. I feel like it keeps our scholars out of trouble. It teaches teens how to work. My favorite part is getting the money for them teaching me. You'll find a friend. They'll motivate you to come to work, come to Tool Time, be up early, you'll have a connection with them. The mentors will get you where you need to be, they'll ask you questions every day. Some of the mentors are like friends or like people you can look up to. Having a person to kind of guide you and what you're doing and kind of be able to give you some advice. It's really helpful. I know sometimes we don't have that at home and then over the summer we don't have our teachers. So, the mentor just kind of like in place for those people who we are in need of. The MYWE program is important to the community because it gives a lot of the youth in our community the opportunity to see themselves in a positive aspect for their future. It's not just to be here for a paycheck. It's for us to let the community know that we have people out here that's trying to show that Baton Rouge is a better place. It gives you connections and networks. Maybe you don't know what you want to be in the future, but it definitely gives you like an outreach looking at all these host sites, like what options are available in your community and one that may fit your interests. And it's your job to step forward to put that effort in to get where you want to be.
