US GoM FID Alert! bp has taken FID at its Kaskida development in the US Gulf of Mexico. This will be the Major's 6th hub in the region, with the platform expected to produce 80,000 bbl/d from 6 wells in Phase One. This phase has 275 MMboe of recoverable resource with first oil anticipated in 2029. “Technology has and will continue to play a pivotal role in propelling Kaskida from discovery to production. Together with the other resources we have in the Paleogene, we expect it to prove to be a world-class development. Today is a critical step in realizing its potential.” said Gordon Birrell, bp’s EVP of production and operations. This is bp’s first 20k development, requiring well equipment rated up to 20,000 psi. Advancements in 20k drilling technology, seismic imaging, and regional expertise enable bp to develop Kaskida, as well as the Tiber project (FID expected in 2025). bp’s objective is to unlock 10 bnboe in-place from its Paleogene discoveries.

I am thrilled to announce that our publication, SPE-217737-MS, which was presented earlier this year at the 2024 IADC/SPE International Drilling Conference, has been selected for presentation at the 2024 SPE ATCE in the special session, "???????????????? ????????????????????: ???????? ???? ?????? ????????." In this paper, we compare drilling anomaly predictors derived from two approaches: purely data-driven models based solely on observations and hybrid models that incorporate physics-based modeling. We show that hybrid models not only outperform their data-driven counterparts by reducing false sticking predictions (cases where the model predicts a high risk of sticking, but there is actually low or no risk) but also provide enhanced interpretability. Upstream Series 2024 withe the theme of Exploring the Depths: Innovation and Challenges in Energy Industry Exploration and Drilling by SPE ITS SC

I would like to share a paper recently published and presented at the APOGCE SPE Event in Perth, Australia, titled "Optimization of ERD Well Drilling in Real-Time: Integrating Geosteering Techniques and Drilling Parameters for Reduced Geological Uncertainty." This paper, developed by the ROGII Mexico team in collaboration with our client PEMEX, presents a case study of an offshore extended reach drilling (ERD) well. The focus is on modern geosteering and drilling optimization practices, including: ? Identification of the wellbore's stratigraphic position and formation dips. ? Timely and accurate identification of fault vertical displacements, crucial for setting the casing shoe and ensuring well integrity. ? The interaction between geosteering/geoscience, and an integrated drilling platform, leveraging a geology-driven roadmap. This approach not only maximized reservoir contact within the target zone but also significantly improved the rate of penetration (ROP) by optimizing drilling parameters, ultimately reducing well delivery time and costs. The methodology presented has proven to be successful and is set to be adopted by operations geologists and drilling engineers in upcoming drilling campaigns.
