So great to see this convergence of two amazing community assets: The Vervain Collective and Crowdfund Better. I first met Kelsey Jae when mutual friend Dave Krick roped us into coordinating the first Boise Tour de Coop. I was instantly impressed with her creativity, intelligence, and organization skills; she is passionate about genuine community engagement and gets things done.
Check out her simple explainer of Crowdfunding. If you aren't familiar with how it works, this is a good introduction. And then head over to Crowdfund Better for a deeper dive. As an early investor/shareholder of Boise Brewing, I definitely support investing in your community over some remote, impersonal entity you can't visit or experience first hand.
As Kelsey says, #Crowdfunding or #Locavesting are about more than money; when you invest dollars in your values and neighbors, you become a brand ambassador for the business. I can tell you that I'm always quick to sing the praises of Boise Brewing and have referred hundreds of folks since they opened.
Check out Vervain's campaign and see if it's right for you. As Amy Cortese, author of Locavesting points out in her 2012 TEDx Maui talk, if we invested just 50%, 5%, or even 1% of our portfolio within 50 miles of our home, we could create ripple effects of jobs and prosperity for our friends and neighbors. Check it out.
Have you heard of crowdfunding? You should definitely follow my friends at Crowdfund Better - they are amazing! For a quick overview, and more about why my other company The Vervain Collective is using crowdfunding for our big move this summer, check out this video - https://lnkd.in/gQKtn5vH
