So important
A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of sitting down with Alexis Alemán and Irvin Garcia, two first generation medical school students. We discussed a number of topics, including health equity, access to care for the Latino community, and why representation matters in our health care system. The Biden-Harris Administration and HHS are rolling up our sleeves, getting our hands dirty, and fighting tooth and nail to ensure that every member of our immigrant family gets the care and support they deserve. ?? Watch below to hear more of our conversation! https://bit.ly/4dzsk6t #FoosInMedicine

This National Minority Health Month, we're committed to bridging health disparities and advancing equity for all. Data has shown that minority groups are often underserved by the healthcare system – and data is key to making real change in health equity. Massive amounts of primary source data are expanding diversity in clinical trials, better informing minority patient care by accounting for social drivers of health, and more. Inovalon is proud to be part of the many organizations across healthcare contributing to advancements in health equity. While National Minority Health Month reminds us that healthcare has work left to do to deliver equal care to all communities, we’re also reminded of how far the healthcare system has come. #MinorityHealthMonth #HealthEquity

Transformative Nonprofit Leader| Chase Ink Entreprenista 100 Awardee | Strategic Consultant | ForbesBLK Member | Published Author | Sickle Cell Expert & Rare Disease Advocate | Dynamic Speaker | Health Equity Champion
?I'm thrilled to be speaking at the Healthcare Advocate Summit in September at Caesars Palace, alongside my Rare Sister ,Dionne Stalling! Our session will address the significant health disparities and inequities faced by minorities with rare diseases. ?Rare diseases, totaling over 10,000, impact millions, yet they remain largely unheard of due to their rarity. When you add the challenges of being a minority, particularly a Black person with a rare disease, the layers of disparities and inadequate care become even more pronounced. Sickle cell disease, for example, affects 100,000 Americans, and was discovered in 1910, still with no cure, and only since 2019 have their been medications developed to specifically address this illness which is one of the most common genetic disorders. ? For the 30million Americans living with a rare disease , less than 1% have therapies to treat their illness let alone cure it. The combination of medical racism, stereotypes, and a lack of understanding exacerbates the struggles of these patients. They are often labeled as combative, drug seekers, or non-compliant, and their pain is frequently underestimated or dismissed simply because of their race. ?This discussion is not just timely but necessary. Advocacy must be as unique as the communities we support—there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Dionne L. Stalling and I were both meant to present on rare diseases, and it's powerful that the Healthcare Advocate Summit recognized the importance of our collective voices on this topic. ?Our session aims to provide attendees with actionable tools to better advocate for the rare disease community and improve health equity, whether you're a health advocate, legislator, medical provider, or in the pharmaceutical industry. ?This opportunity allows us to amplify the voices of the Rare Disease community, bringing greater awareness and understanding. I am proud to represent the Rare Disease and Sickle Cell community of Nevada and look forward to an engaging session where attendees will gain new insights and practical strategies. Join us to make a difference—alone we are rare, together we are strong. This is a session you don't want to miss! #AloneWeAreRARETOGETHERWeAreSTRONG ?? #HealthAdvocateSummit #RareDiseases #HealthEquity #SickleCell #Advocacy??????
