Zipper's Daily Blackprint, Day 11: This was the ?Higher-Faster-Further-drupa“ What will people remember about this drupa? It was clearly the ‘higher-faster-further drupa’! It wasn't AI, sustainability, nanography, robotics or any other trendy topic that dominated drupa 2024 – it was simply about the fact that the technologies that were already on the market 8 years ago have now really grown up. And got faster. And bigger – in terms of the sheet sizes. Personally, I had some incredible encounters with old and new companions. I learned that the ‘official’ drupa has nothing to do with the people on the show floor. They want to talk, exchange ideas, are curious and also often horrified when they realize that the 'currywurst index' has reached new heights. It is wonderful to see how strangers exchange ideas on an ad hoc basis and at eye level. And it is great to see that drupa is working again after an 8-year break. However, many people also have the impression – as my little survey showed – that drupa will have to reinvent itself in the future, because ‘business as usual’ will not do this trade fair any good. Shorter cycles would suit drupa well, I often heard, more affordable options for participation, a ‘start-up village’: the list of wishes is long. My personal wish is rather this: namely that I will see you all again at the next drupa in my city of birth, Düsseldorf. Stay healthy, agile and courageous – the printing industry needs you, your passion, creativity and energy! With this in mind: see you in 2028! At the latest. ----------------- Let's meet! Just drop me a line. Or find me in the afternoons until 4 pm at the Steuber booth right in front of hall 4.

For me personally, the environment is the driving force behind what we do and why we do it. Unfortunately, we live in a capitalistic world controlled by a species that is very bad at preventive measures and only engages in cleaning mode when it's too late. Humans are also very bad at handling radical changes, hence why they prefer to incrementally make changes in existing systems. Having said this, if we can't develop a technology that is faster and cheaper than existing ones, I doubt we'd get far. Sadly very few care about the environment unless the outcome from a new technology is cheaper than their existing one. Curious to know how far we are on our journey to being able to beat the Asians at their game, drop us a note :-)
Our 3DTI tech is the result of eight years of development, countless late nights, scribbled lightbulb moments and a lot of hard work by an incredibly talented and dedicated team. That's how we create breakthrough batch-to-mass manufacturing technologies with a focus on accelerating the transition to sustainability at an industrial scale. To kick-off our?Future Series?we’re sharing some insights from founders Janne Kyttanen and Eduard Zanen on the why behind What The Future. Curious to know more? https://lnkd.in/dTScxAW5

To print or not to print?? ?? Sometimes #3Dprinting gives you amazing outcomes. Unusual shapes that are more robust, use less material, save fuel (for example in an airplane). But sometimes it is simply cheaper to use traditional methods, like molding. How do you decide? Omer Blaier built the startup CASTOR to help you with this. His #AI empowered software uses lots of #data and once you have a recommendation whether to print a part, you need to feed the information into your production system. In other words: The solution works best when it connects into the #ecosystem and with other partners. Castor decided to join #SiemensXcelerator. Check out the video interview with him and with Jens Hübner, a manager for additive manufacturing at Siemens. https://lnkd.in/esJZNhWM

?? I was honored to speak at #TEDxWilmington on April 27, 2024. My talk, titled "How 3D Printing A Home In Four Weeks Can Change Four Generations," delved into the transformative power of 3D printing in the construction industry, demonstrating how we can construct homes faster, more affordably, and with a significantly reduced environmental footprint. ?? Imagine building a home in just four weeks—a home that provides not only shelter but does so responsibly, using recycled materials and cutting-edge technology. This is no longer just a concept; it’s a reality that #AzurePrintedHomes is actualizing, revolutionizing our approach to building and living. ?? Once my #TEDx talk is available for streaming, I’ll take you on a journey from my childhood home in Kyiv to the innovative 3D-printed structures we are crafting today. Each story highlights the urgent need for innovative solutions amidst global housing shortages and environmental challenges. ?? "Ideas Change Everything" – This new TED tagline resonates deeply with our mission. It's through innovative ideas that we push boundaries, challenge norms, and work towards a sustainable future. I'm eager to show how our initiatives at Azure are poised to impact generations, fostering a world where every home contributes positively to our planet’s health. The journey to #TEDxWilmington felt like a marathon with a sprint finish, catching a flight from Hong Kong to the US on the morning of my talk. I couldn’t have done it without the immense support and guidance from mentors like Dan Young and Tia Cristy, and the steadfast support from my team, Ross Maguire and Jessica Paullus. A huge shoutout to my fellow speakers—Kamin Samuel, PhD Richard Loek Ivan Thomas Doug Motley, CFA Ayanna Khan, M.S. Nery Burgos Amy Lau, Michael Fleischner, JANET HOGAN, Dr. Justin Moseley Rich Olson, TRISH WILKINSON, Jonathan Whitney, Jonathan Martin and Phillip Michael. Your brilliance and camaraderie have immensely enriched this experience! If you have not heard, our new funding round is open. We are off to a fantastic start. Nice description of the advantages!
Next week is AM week at Formnext - Where ideas take shape!! Again, one year passed and a lot of things happened. Of course, our AM group from Fraunhofer IFAM Dresden will be there again, presenting our different AM technologies, such as the sinter-based, hybrid GelCasting process chain. Checklist ?? Tired of printing defects? ?? Tired of rough surfaces? ?? Tired of stresses within the part? ?? Tired of high machine costs and maintenance? Why GelCasting? ? Freeform ability like AM ? No printing defects ? Best surface quality ("as sintered") ~ 0,5 μm Ra ? Highly adaptable process chain ? Low Equipment costs / low entry barrier Visit us at our booth and have a chat... and a coffee ;-)! #AdditiveManufacturing #SBAM #GelCasting #FraunhoferIFAMDresden #ifAMthenIFAM Thomas Studnitzky Robert Teuber Niklas HerzerJakob Scheibler Cornelia Müller Chóngliàng Zhòng

Back in sunny Chicago this week, just 6 weeks after my last trip here. ? Major changes can take place in AI in that short time span. ? Today I gave a Keynote on AI at Labelexpo Americas, the US event for the flagship Labelexpo series. ? I spent time covering the impact of AI on the label market.?For example, automation and robotization, plus AI-powered printing, packaging & label design.?I referred to developments from Sonoco and EyeC - Print Inspection & Quality Control Systems, as well as companies such as Enfocus, Esko, X-Rite and Pantone who are collaborating on AI assisted decision making tools for upstream packaging product specs. And AMP Robotics, who are changing the way we recycle containers, paper, plastic, and other consumer packaging materials. ? I also shared some of the latest regulatory updates.?For example, the AI Treaty which now allows non-EU member states to sign.?The treaty, the first international legally binding text which was adopted last May, sets out a legal framework that covers the entire lifecycle of AI systems and addresses the risks they may pose while promoting responsible innovation.?It’s so important for the international community to collaborate in this way. ? I know the labels, printing and packaging sector well. I spoke in May this year in Athens for FINAT – the international association for the European label industry. And back in 2023 I worked in Switzerland with Gallus Group, who hosted an industry Experience Day. In the Q&A today, we discussed how to collaborate as an industry around AI Playbooks, informing the regulators etc. Well done for hosting a super event Tasha Ventimiglia,?Chelsea McDougall Jade Grace and team, and thanks for your support!
