Hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies struggle under the program’s administrative burdens. As the battle rages on between legislators in power (collectively the government) and the pharmacy benefits industry ---providers (pharmacies, medical) and patients are caught in the cross fire. Has the vertical consolidation made the largest institutions too big too fail and too big to regulate? Will things have to get worse for anything to significantly change? How much more money will be wasted in the Medical-Industrial complex without improving access, affordability, and quality of care?

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of the Inspector General have begun investigations into how #PBM vertical integration has impacted drug costs in Medicare Part D. According to an analysis by 46Brooklyn Research, a nonprofit drug-pricing analytics group, PBM drug prices on a selection of specialty drugs were at least 24 times higher than what manufacturers were charging.
