What’s an award worth these days? In the age of participation trophies and endless accolade inflation, it seems like everyone has a shiny statue to show off. But let’s be honest, do these awards truly represent excellence, or are they just another checkbox in the race for recognition? Don’t get me wrong, being acknowledged feels great, but when every other post is about yet another ‘industry award,’ it makes you wonder about the real value behind these honors. Are they driving genuine innovation and setting industry standards, or simply boosting egos and marketing campaigns? Maybe it’s time we shift our focus from collecting accolades to creating real impact. There aren’t enough Northern businesses winning awards. ?????? I’ve been fortunate to attend a number of conferences and award events, which are typically held in London, and every time I come away feeling that there is a real lack of representation from the North. Being a Northern lass I can confidently say there are some incredible brands and individuals doing really great things up here, but more often than not, they’re not winning, they’re not shortlisted, they’re not nominating, but most importantly they’re not even aware of them.. I rarely see any content about awards until they’ve happened and someone I follow on LinkedIn shares their new accolade, or the chance to catch up with friends. I can’t help but wonder if we are losing our invites in the post OR need do we need to shout louder about what we’re doing up ‘ere. What do you think the barrier is? ?? Are we celebrating our wins enough? ?? Do we know which awards to enter? ?? Do we value winning awards? ?? Is it purely because they’re mainly held in London?

Well that will be us up there on the short list for best integrated campaign ?? from the world renowned and prestigious The Drum Awards As part of our marketing transformation, 12 months ago we set ourselves an ambition to get some marketing swagger (aka a hefty gold embellishment for our newly installed and ambitiously big trophy cabinet). Not for the party (don’t get me wrong we like a party) but as recognition from industry gurus, creative pundits, marketing maestros that our work is as good as our customers (and our stats) say. Team… whether we win or not on the night it doesn’t matter. What matters is we are on our way and this recognition is the fuel we need for our onward journey. We have so many award lists reserved for people ?????????? 20, 30, and 40. That's cool and all, but how about we push for some new standalone recognitions from the likes of PRWeek, Forbes, Fast Company, TechCrunch, etc., dedicated to (wait for it) people ???????? 40, 50, 60? Let's call it the "Wisdom Winners" or "Wisdom 50 over 50", you get the idea. Major bonus points if the people selected were relative late bloomers or second actors who hit their stride well after the typical prodigies. People like Morgan Freeman, Rose Blumkin, Bernie Marcus, Ray Kroc, Henry Ford, Martha Stewart, Toni Morrison, Lucille Ball, the list goes on and on. The more resilience, the higher the ranking. Do those who pay to be featured on lists or highlighted in special issues also believe in participation trophies? Why should I pay someone to publish me? Why would I want to pay to be on a list? It’s hard to take seriously those who claim to be the best in the business, yet pay a media company to boost their reputation. Is there even a legitimate list that truly recognizes the excellence of some of these partners? Here’s to the real superheroes in our partner community—the ones who earn their accolades without buying them.

Am sure most of us have participated industry awards which seek to recognize the best among us in different categories. mostly we are asked to nominate and vote. The question is how objectives are this ranking? This ranking at the end of the day are popular competition than a merit based ranking. what are your views on this awards?
