The Power of Representation Representation matters. The underrepresentation of Black individuals in leadership roles perpetuates a cycle of non-inclusivity and lack of awareness. A mere 3.2% of executive or senior-level positions are held by Black professionals, a glaring disparity that undermines the effectiveness of diversity and inclusion initiatives. "Diversity is being invited to the party; inclusion is being asked to dance," says Vernā Myers, VP of Inclusion Strategy at Netflix. Organizations must actively elevate Black voices in decision-making roles to dismantle systemic barriers. This includes implementing mentorship programs and leadership development initiatives and ensuring diverse perspectives are present at the table. Dive into our blog post, "Unmasking the Barriers: The Journey of Black Americans with Disabilities in the Workplace" Part 2 of 5, https://lnkd.in/g73x_ZYr At Baker Consulting, we understand the complexities of creating accessible and inclusive workplaces. Our READI2B framework is designed to help organizations navigate this journey with empathy, courage, and strategic vision. We work closely with businesses to assess their current practices, identify areas for improvement, and develop comprehensive plans that prioritize the needs of marginalized communities, including Black Americans with disabilities. ???? 20,000 ?????????? ?????????????? ??????????????, ??????????????????, ?????? ????????????????????. Last Saturday, despite the cold, I took nearly 20,000 steps, but this walk was about more than just fitness, it was a journey through history, community, and connection. As part of the Queens Walking Group, in collaboration with Lewisham Homes, I joined an incredible Black History 365 walk through Deptford, South East London. With over 70 people in attendance, we walked not just to cover distance, but to uncover historical moments, some painful, others inspiring that have shaped so many lives, including mine. Thank you to Steve Martin for the incredible insight and detailed information as you guided us through the tour. Also thank you to the incredible young photographer Keviz_photography and the others who shared amazing pictures. Why Preserving History Matters To Me ?? Understanding Our Roots – Deptford’s deep ties to maritime history, migration, and Black contributions helped me appreciate the journey. ?? Honouring Those Before Me – From enslaved individuals brought through its docks to the Windrush generation, these stories must never be forgotten. ?? Building a Legacy – If history isn’t preserved, it risks being erased. Keeping these narratives alive ensures future generations understand their foundations. Community: The Heart of It All What also stood out for me was how micro-communities came together for a shared purpose. With over 70 people in attendance, we weren’t just walking, we were learning, connecting, and building bonds. Each of us came with different motivations, yet, in that moment, we became one community in motion, creating memories that will last a lifetime. This walk reinforced a powerful truth: community isn’t just about where we come from, but what we build together. ?????????? ???????????????? How has history shaped your view of community? Have you experienced a gathering where different motivations united people? What does preserving history mean to you? Let’s keep the conversation going, share your reflections below #PowerOfCommunity #BlackHistory365 #DeptfordHistory #QueensWalkingGroup #LewishamHomes #PreservingOurPast #WalkingTogether #LegacyAndHeritage

"Being a declared year-round ally is much more powerful and welcome than waving a flag for Pride Month and then disappearing until next year’s parade. The industry needs more root and branch change and less fluff and guff." big group's Ed Riseman explores why buzzwords can risk DEI messaging coming across as a script, how to ensure they remain meaningful and why year-round allyship is so important: https://ow.ly/HUQa50SvOez

One of our organizational values is Justice, and on Juneteenth we'd like to recognize the meaning of justice within our organization: “We are well aware that the social, political, and financial biases of humans make the balance of justice easy for some and very difficult for many. The scales of justice, be it legal or social, have a heavy human hand on one side of the scale that many do not have the resources to gain the supportive weight needed to offset the preconceived attitudes toward them. We see the shelter and its staff as the balancing force needed to help people get the fairness they deserve.” As you commemorate, celebrate, or reflect upon the significance of Juneteenth today, we want to recognize our team for their devotion to all our values, and our mission. They are on the frontlines of so many social and spiritual issues at St. John’s Ministries, and it is important to slow down and consider how all this weaves into the greater moral issues of our time.

What does "Reclaiming Narratives" mean to you? #BlackHistoryMonth #LinkedInNewsUK #ReclaimingNarratives “Reclaiming Narratives” means reshaping how we are seen, heard, and represented. As the founder of The Black Tri Tribe (BTT) and someone deeply invested in the construction industry, it’s about taking ownership of our stories, identities, and achievements, which have often been overshadowed or distorted by others. In both my work as a construction professional and as a community organiser with BTT, I actively challenge perceptions and break down barriers that often exclude Black voices. In construction, I bring real-life experience to the next generation, demonstrating that we belong in every aspect of the industry—from site management to project management—redefining what it means to be a leader. In spaces like sports and construction, where Black voices are underrepresented, we reclaim our narrative by showing that we belong, we excel, and we define our own journey. Through BTT, we not only participate in triathlons but also show that our community is capable of much more than society often acknowledges. It’s about rewriting the story on our terms and celebrating our contributions unapologetically, whether in sports or in building the cities around us. #BlackHistoryMonth #LinkedInNewsUK
