Listen, I love a productivity hack (I really do!), but in most organizations productivity is a *systems* problem. How do you start to fix the root causes? ?? Make work visible. If you default to writing things down and openly tracking progress towards goals, you empower everyone to make progress anytime and anywhere. ?? Support focus. Unclear communication practices make people nervous they will miss something urgent and important if they aren't checking all messaging platforms all the time. Creating clarity about how to reach out if a work "emergency" arises gives people the peace of mind they need to do deeper work, uninterrupted. I was forced to learn the Eisenhower Matrix, some time ago, at one management workshop or another. It’s a matrix designed to help you prioritize tasks by showing you how to arrange them into 4 boxes: (1) “important and urgent”, (2) “not important but urgent”, (3) “important but not urgent”, and (4) “not important and not urgent.” According to the theory, your problem is that you spend too much time in the “not important but urgent” quadrant, doing busy-work. The solution is to shift your focus to the things in the “important and urgent” quadrant instead, leaving the busywork to others. It sounds reasonable doesn’t it? The problem is, it doesn’t work. Try it for yourself and you’ll see. Your productivity won’t change much, if at all. Here’s the issue: The Eisenhower matrix treats productivity like a priority problem, when it’s almost certainly a human motivation problem #business #time_mangement #eisehower_matrix
