Tomato shoots, also known as tomato sprouts or tomato suckers, are young growths that emerge from the junctions between the main stem and branches of tomato plants. These shoots play several important roles in the growth and management of tomato plants. Tomato shoots typically appear as small, tender stems that develop at the leaf axils, where leaves meet the main stem. #Crops

Heirloom tomatoes are landing in stores and Farmers' Markets and it looks like a bumper crop. With my overabundance of basil, a dressing had to be made. #Basil, #SummerREcipes, #FreshBasil, #Salad, #SaladDressing, #HeirloomTomatoes, #BasilRecipes https://lnkd.in/gDijm8r5

What is Best for Tomatoes in July for Great Tomatoes in August https://lnkd.in/e4S6BMdk Here's What You Should Do To Your Tomatoes In July For A Huge August Harvest.?? Water Deeply and Consistently.?One of the most important things you can do for your tomato plants in July is to water them deeply and consistently. Tomatoes need a regular supply of water to develop healthy roots and produce juicy fruits. Deep watering encourages the roots to grow deeper into the soil, which helps the plants withstand hot, dry conditions.

HARVEST &POST HARVEST HANDLING MATURITY INDEX 1. Time ?? Date from Pollination starts: Sweet melons take approximately 90 to 120 days from sowing to reach maturity. Keep track of the days since pollination to gauge readiness. 2. Thumping Sound: Thump the melon gently with your finger. A ripe melon will produce a dull, heavy sound, while an immature one will sound more metallic. 3. Color Change: Visual Observe the portion of the melon that rests on the ground. As it matures, this area will turn yellow. Consider the varieties 4. Firmness test: Ripe melons exhibit a crisp and firm texture. Press gently with the flat of your hand to assess firmness. 5. Flavor: Organoleptic Test Taste a small sample. A sweet melon should have a luscious, juicy flavor when fully ripe. 6. Pre-Germination: [Overripen] "Not good for seed production" Check for any signs of seed germination within the melon. This indicates maturity. 7. Hand Pressure Test: Press the melon gently. Ripe melons will give a cracking noise when pressed. 8. Drying of the leaf close to the fruit and A crack sign on the fruit core.. ☆☆☆☆ #postharvest #handlewithcare #farmingforthefuture

Weeds like Common Lamb’s Quarters (?????????????????????? ??????????) may seem like mere nuisances, but there are other ways to get rid of this plant. The leaves can be prepared similar to spinach, and they contain more nutrients! Sprouting the seeds of Common Lamb’s Quarters offers an alternative to quinoa sprouts. Plus, the seeds make a good flour substitute, and the roots can be brewed into tea. #EdibleWeeds #CommonLambsQuarters #PlantPowder

SOME FACTS ABOUT MARKIES POTATO VARIETY. Oh! What a harvest! Having sampled so many potato varieties, I'm very cautious on which ones I stock in my house, For example, this markies, which I will be definitely storing. ?What makes it a good processing variety?! It has a smooth thin layered skin with shallow eyes. It has a high dry matter, this makes it not soak in oil, and does not shrink, the chips remains firm. Has a cream yellow color, when fleshed, this makes it's final product attractive. Has a long dormancy period, 3-4 months, which makes it store for long. #potatoes #potatofarming #

I have a rule for myself. I don't tell folks to do anything that I don't do myself. With that in mind, let's think about contingency planning. I talk about it a lot when I'm working with organizations. Of course I want everything to go smoothly and like clockwork. I live in the real world though and in the real world, Murphy still exists (as in Murphy's Law). The thing is that Murphy's Law works in triplicate at Illahe Lodge. Not only can and do things go wrong, when they go wrong, it may take three days or more to recover. (The first day to find and diagnose the problem. The second day to find a solution. The third day to implement the solution and pray for success.) So when Murphy strikes, what do you do? It seems to me that you have multiple layers of contingency plans that can be invoked, if needed. You are looking at Plan B for the tomato patch at Illahe Lodge. If slugs, bugs, hail, heat, wind, or some other factor causes the tomato plants to die, I don't have time to start over with new seed for the current year. Instead, I plant enough extra seeds to replace the entire tomato patch. (If I have extra plants once the danger or time to replace the patch has passed, I have plants that I can sell.) What happens if Plan B doesn't work? Well, there are Plan C, Plan D, and Plan E. What are those plans? Plan C is to buy plants from other growers, understanding that I might have to compromise on the variety that I want to grow. Plan D is to buy tomatoes, understanding that the variety and the quality might not be what I would like. Plan E is to change up the menu so that I don't serve tomatoes at Illahe Lodge and, in the winter, spring, and summer, I generally don't serve fresh tomatoes for that very reason. (If the tomato is going to be cooked, I have a lot of frozen tomatoes from the prior year - hundreds of pounds. Some of those tomatoes are frozen whole and others are dried and the frozen.)
