Foster + Partners’ Sanlin Riverside development breaks ground A recent groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of construction work on a new mixed-use development, which is part of the wider Sanlin Riverside project in Shanghai. Designed by Foster + Partners, the development includes state-of-the-art offices to the north of the site, which connect with a retail offering and an additional workspace in the south. The buildings are joined together by landscaped plazas, gardens, and courtyards, as well a new park for community markets and festivals and a waterfront colonnade. JDS Development Group has unveiled revised plans for 1 Southside Park, a transformative mixed-use project set to redefine Brickell's skyline. Now featuring three towers instead of the originally proposed single supertall structure. The updated design includes a 64-story residential tower with 1,175 apartments, a 54-story office tower offering 1.5 million square feet of Class A space, and a 20-story, 200-key hotel. Notably, the project will integrate with the existing Fire Station No. 4, preserving local heritage while introducing modern architectural elements. This project showcases the dynamic nature of large-scale urban development. Black Salmon Capital has proposed a 36-story mixed-use tower in Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood, featuring a bold Diagrid Envelope design by Arquitectonica. The development will rise on a 1.02-acre site and include 229 residential units, 4,416 square feet of retail space, and 412 parking spaces. Additionally, a five-story building will be constructed for the Mission San Francisco y Santa Clara church, providing expanded facilities while preserving the existing church built in 1997. Mitheridge Capital Management and LGL have received approval for plans to bring 320 co-living studios to a former industrial yard in Brixton. Volume: ~50,400 Cubic Feet I had the privilege of contributing to the stunning Church Office Building Plaza project by supplying over 50,000 cubic feet of EPS Geofoam. This versatile and innovative material played a critical role in the development of this space. Project Highlights: Lightweight Solution: EPS Geofoam was used to displace thousands of tons of dirt in planters and walkways. This approach dramatically reduced the volume of soil needed, offering a cost-effective and efficient solution. Structural Integrity: The material’s unique properties allowed it to be sturdy enough to support small maintenance vehicles, while its lightweight nature ensured compatibility with construction on top of a parking garage. Smart Engineering: This application highlights how modern materials like Geofoam enable complex designs to come to life, balancing practicality and creativity. It’s always exciting to see how innovative solutions can transform spaces while meeting project challenges.
