MyPlate turned 13 last week! Launched in 2011, MyPlate replaced the Food Guide Pyramid. The symbol is a simple visual reminder to choose a variety of foods throughout the day and throughout the week. It represents what and how much to eat from each of the food groups over the course of the day, whether you eat on a plate, from a bowl, or another way. I hope the message is loud and clear from this video… The type of food you eat is super important. And you should try to eat whole foods at least 90% of the time. But just because you eat healthy doesn’t mean you’re automatically going to lose weight. Unless you’re consistently measuring your serving sizes. How you eat really matters. 1) Do you chew your food? 2) Do you inhale your food? Let me know by indicating 1 or 2 ( I am by no means perfect BTW!) Chewing your food really does matter, the more you chew your food the easier it is for your body to digest. Your food should be more the consistency of paste before swallowing. Putting your knife and fork down between mouthfuls can really help - simple but effective. Next time you are eating consciously take note of how much you are chewing before swallowing, you may surprise yourself.
