Embedding Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) into the culture of aged care organisations is essential for improving resident outcomes and fostering pride and ownership among staff. It’s about more than just meeting compliance standards; it’s about creating shared responsibility across all levels. Leadership support, transparency, and visible IPC champions are critical to success. Shifting from a compliance-driven to a culture-driven approach empowers staff to take proactive steps in protecting residents’ health and safety. #InfectionPrevention #AgedCare #CulturalChange #Leadership #ResidentSafety #IPC

Have you ever considered that sustaining your infection prevention and control victories is like "simmering a pot of water"? "You can't just turn the pot off and let it get cold. You have to keep that water simmering somehow," - Vanessa A Makarewicz MN, RN, CIC Just like a pot of simmering water requires continuous monitoring and adjustments to prevent it from boiling over or growing cold, sustaining #IPC quality improvement efforts requires constant monitoring. The key is to: ? Adapt your strategies as situations evolve, based on data that’s available ? Promote a culture that encourages innovation and continuous improvement ? Engage your frontline staff. They’re your eyes and ears at the bedside and in those departments. They also know more of what’s going on than you ever will. If you let the "pot" go unattended, previous IPC achievements can quickly dissipate as Vanessa highlighted. You can watch our full conversation on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/gt7HfWkW.
