November is Military and Veteran Family Month Our military families make sacrifices, too! https://lnkd.in/gk-CG2X9 While the sacrifices made and hardships endured by our service members are well-documented, a related aspect that many people may not think about as often are the sacrifices made and hardships endured by military families as well. Maintaining a family in the civilian world is challenging enough, and military families may also face additional, unique challenges, such as frequent moves from base to base, having a loved one deployed for months on end, or dealing with long-term physical and/or emotional wounds, that can make the task of maintaining a family seem almost overwhelming. Challenging Perspectives on Veterans Day and Military Service As we approach Veterans Day, I find myself reflecting on how we view military service and the concept of “glorifying” those who serve. Around the world, soldiers are often cast as heroes, symbols of courage and sacrifice. Yet, there’s another side we rarely discuss: what it means to send young people into wars that may not serve clear moral or legal purposes, where they risk—and often lose—their lives for interests that can be difficult to justify. In the U.S., the way we honor veterans can sometimes feel like a cultural ritual designed to shield us from confronting the ethical and political questions around these conflicts. Glorification can provide comfort to families, yet is it not also a way to obscure the darker reality of how these wars impact people and societies across the globe? My question is: how can we genuinely support veterans while also promoting a conversation around the policies that send them into harm’s way? What does meaningful honor and support look like when we view it through a lens of responsibility and accountability? I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this complex topic.

This Memorial Day we recognize and honor the sacrifice of our service members. We remember those we lost and are grateful to every soul who fought for our country. Thank you to our American soldiers, veterans, military, and service workers. May God strengthen those still in the field and may there be a safe trip home. Veterans with mobility issues through being wounded, injured, illness or age, deserve to be able to travel with dignity, not be manhandked on and off aircraft like a sack of potatoes, risking injury, or death. They deserve to know their wheelchairs will not be damaged during a flight or during loading and unloading. United Airlines had the opportunity to have its replacement fleet accessible but chose not do.
