I was so excited to watch this project come together, from early concepts and strategy to those first design mockups and all the way through to development and deployment. It was a wonderful project and I love the end result. Congrats to Stef Jones, Heather Schneider, Tayo, Joshua, Mike, and the entire SCAN team. Here are a few behind-the-scenes highlights I caught from the sidelines while watching this project come together: 1) We used Octopus.do for rapid and visual sitemap generation. It helped visualize rough page layouts, which helped communicate those ideas with the project's lead designer. 2) This is the second project we have used Storybook on, and it made QA and handling the growing number of layout permutations feel manageable rather than ballooning technical debt. 3) We continue to push image attribution on as many photos as possible. This is an extra bit of work but makes the site feel alive, rich with meta details, and does right by both the photographers, artists, and the subjects. We've been using tippy.js for this and might move to the author's new library, floating-ui.js, in the future. 4) We used GigaPixel by TopazLabs to upscale one of the main hero images. It does a beautiful job of adding super-resolution detail without introducing artifacts or detracting from the original's look and feel. It's a one-time purchase, and we'll definitely be using it in the future. 5) Utility-based CSS frameworks seem to have been a win with the developers; maybe I was the lone skeptic. They also make content modular across a single project and even potentially between different client projects. This is particularly of interest as we lean heavily into WordPress Gutenberg blocks. Combined with Storybook, it could also be a winning strategy.

?? Struggles don’t define you—they shape you. At Celtic Financial Planning Ltd, our latest Christmas campaign is about more than just giving; it’s about creating hope. This year, we’re supporting three families who are facing incredibly difficult circumstances. ?? For me, this campaign is deeply personal. Producing the accompanying video was one of the hardest things I’ve done. It brought back memories of my own childhood struggles, while also highlighting the challenges these families endure today. Just hours before filming, I learned that one of the families’ grandfathers had been given a terminal diagnosis and would be spending his last Christmas with them. That news hit me hard. The video is raw because so are the emotions behind it. As a child, I saw my parents sacrifice everything to ensure my brother and I had what we needed. I’ll never forget my dad breaking down as he handed me ￡20, saying it was all he had for Christmas. Those experiences taught me two things: to work hard and to always be grateful. They also instilled in me a drive to give back, which is why community and charity are central to my business philosophy. ?? I firmly believe that we rise by lifting others. That’s not a typical corporate mantra in financial services—and honestly, I don’t care. For me, success isn’t measured in profit margins or awards; it’s measured in the lives we touch. ?? One family shared this message with me: “We felt like humanity had left us, but a stranger paying for Christmas has restored our faith in kindness.” If you can, help others. It doesn’t have to be grand—sometimes, the smallest acts of kindness leave the greatest impact.

Momentum is Building

Howard Zinn, one of the most influential historians in American history said, "Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world." Did you know that, per the State Department in 2023, that an estimated 27.6 million human beings, individuals like you and me, are currently victims of trafficking worldwide? Sadly, many of them are often hidden right in front of us. Human trafficking is a crime that deprives millions of people of their dignity and freedom. It's real. We CAN do something about it. We remain silent, and nothing changes. But together, every effort makes a difference. Today, I urge you to take a moment and reflect. If you can do something, see what that is. When we each do what we can, it comes together in a beautiful way and becomes the wave that moves things.
