If someone has already had pharmacogenomics (PGx) testing with results in our electronic medical record, our clinicians can now in real time switch therapies if the patient will have a problem genetically with the medication being ordered. These alerts are currently for some higher level evidence genes but these alerts are being added as new gene evidence is being discovered. With AI, PGx can be combined with other “omics” to truly individualize medicine for everyone.

?? AI and Gut Health: Bridging the Future of Colitis Research ?? As a PhD student currently working on colitis, I find it inspiring to explore how emerging technologies like AI can transform our understanding of gut health. Recently, I read the study: "Unravelling Metabolite-Microbiome Interactions in Inflammatory Bowel Disease Through AI and Interaction-Based Modelling," and it resonated deeply with my aspirations for the future. Key Insights That Inspired Me: AI in Multi-Omics: The use of machine learning (Random Forest, XGBoost) to identify microbial and metabolite markers showcases the potential for AI to decipher complex biological systems. Pathways Uncovered: Disruptions in bile acid metabolism and amino acid pathways are linked to IBD, offering non-invasive diagnostic possibilities. Future Promise: This interdisciplinary approach highlights how AI can complement traditional research methods to drive innovation. My Vision: While my current research focuses on colitis through traditional approaches, I am keen to explore AI applications in the future to uncover novel biomarkers and therapeutic strategies. ?? Halicin: an antibiotic molecule identified by AI in 2020, probably better spelled HALicin for deriving its name from the villain AI HAL of 2001 (whose name derived from a play on IBM). HALicin is formerly known as SU-3327, a nondescript and ineffective diabetes treatment identified by human research in 2009. AI did not invent or even discover HALicin, but AI analysis was used to identify and predict its antibiotic properties, which had been hitherto unnoticed. Ask Google or any public GPT: what is halicin, when and how was it discovered? how is it produced? where is it available at what cost per dose for treatment of what diagnoses? I mostly get back a summation of the Wikipedia entry https://lnkd.in/eg5S7BXX wiki/ Halicin. It is interesting that this discovery is widely hailed and touted as a fait accompli for life changing AI medicine, but HALicin is not yet available for treatment of anything.
