It was a bright and sunny day when we visited Lovett, and it felt like the good weather was no coincidence ? Lovett, one of our cleaning supervisors on site, radiates positivity, and her smile was as warm as the sun that day. “Lovett is amazing with people,” says Patrycja, our Area Manager. And it’s clear why. Lovett’s energy is infectious, and the relationships she’s built on-site are nothing short of remarkable. “They always give me gifts, many times. They always say I’m a good cleaner! Lovett, the whole place is nice!” she says with a smile. The appreciation she receives says a great deal about her character whether it’s a coffee, chocolates, or, as she puts it, “Last week, the lady on the 8th floor bought me two cokes.” Her dedication is just as notable. Lovett makes sure everything runs smoothly each day, from uniform checks to ensuring safety in the early, dark winter mornings. “I make sure every morning when I come in, I go to each and every colleague to make sure that they have their yellow signs, make sure everyone is on time, I will do uniform checks and rectify or educate anyone if they don’t have the correct uniform. If somebody is not in, I will ring them to check and make sure nothing has happened on the way to work”. Patrycja adds, “During winter months, they start at 5 am, and it is pitch black, so Lovett will take the correct measures to make sure that they’re safe”. It’s no wonder Lovett and her team received high praise during Christmas last year from our client, with a massive thank you from everyone on site. Your Staff and the Christmas Bonus. This one is free! Why wait until Christmas to show your appreciation? Taking a moment now to personally recognise a team member’s efforts can have a far greater impact than the usual end-of-year gesture; like a box of beers or a £250 bonus that everyone expects. Pulling someone aside and genuinely acknowledging their contributions in a meaningful way, outside the routine year-end recognition can make a lasting impression. This simple act can reinforce their motivation and highlight why their extra effort truly matters. I have had this before, and made me feel part of the very reason I worked so hard. It doesn’t even require an additional gift. Sometimes, a few thoughtful words and five minutes of your time can make all the difference. A unique and timely gesture speaks volumes. A bottle of beer left on your step when you get home is nice, and so is a well done from the boss.

As we celebrate our 4th birthday today, we’re reflecting on some key lessons that have guided our success: ??♀?Prioritise your team and suppliers: Treat your staff and suppliers like your most valued clients. Celebrate small wins, prioritise mental health, and invest in professional growth. A strong team is the foundation of any thriving business. ??♀?Know when to walk away: As a small business, it may feel counterintuitive to turn down work. However, if there’s no mutual respect or a client is making your job unnecessarily difficult, it’s better to part ways. Your team’s worth is undeniable—you hired them for a reason. ?? Value your worth: In the early days, it’s tempting to take every opportunity - but don’t undersell yourself. Be selective and confident in the value that you bring. ?? Maintain strong relationships: While it’s not always possible to avoid burning bridges, it’s crucial to nurture the relationships that matter. Are you genuinely excited for your work’s Christmas party!? Will it be a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the year’s successes, take a moment to be grateful for all the challenges overcome, and bond with your colleagues? Delicious food, loads of laughs...and some surprisingly interesting non-business convo. Sounds good! ?? ?? ?? Or....is this sounding more familiar…. Already planning how long you’re going to stick it out…before you reel off your well rehearsed excuse to make an early exit? Can’t leave the dog too long on it’s own eh (you don’t even own a dog) ?? Filled with anxiety about whether you’ll get stuck next to the ‘bore’ at the Xmas meal...or that colleague that’s been passively aggressively stitching you up all year? Worried you might drink too much……and some horrible home-truths start spilling out!? Visualising that cathartic moment when you finally let the business owners know the REAL level of disdain you have for their ideas, strategy and general persona…. If you were running the business, you’d show them! ?? If you are counting down the days until the work’s Christmas with excitement…..that’s just another good sign you’re working with the right people (or you’re an alcoholic). Maybe you’re an introvert, or you have other interests in your spare time, and that’s absolutely fine too… …but if you normally LOVE (or even just like) going out, partying, wining, dining, dancing, chin-wagging, just NOT with your work colleagues… …maybe it’s time to consider some of the new job opportunities I’m working on!
