Bring in bots to automate the mundane, and with the right leadership, you could end up paying a smaller group of employees a higher salary...This is positive progress, and I love the potential of this! Steve Ells, the founder and former CEO of Chipotle, is launching a new venture called Kernel - a chain of vegetarian fast-casual restaurants powered by robots and a minimal human crew. Each Kernel location will employ only three workers, working alongside robots to prepare and serve meat-free sandwiches, salads, and sides. - Ells has invested $10 million of his own money and raised $36 million from investors to start Kernel. - Robots will handle tasks like warming buns, moving pans, and sending dishes through the kitchen via conveyor belts, while human staff will add final touches and package orders. - This automated system is designed to enhance food safety, reduce waste, and enable Kernel to operate more efficiently with fewer employees. - Despite having a smaller workforce, Kernel plans to invest the savings from automation into higher salaries and better benefits for its human employees than other fast-food chains. The first Kernel restaurant will open in Manhattan in early 2024, and plans are for at least a dozen more locations in New York City over the next two years. By leveraging robotic technology and minimising human interaction, Ells aims to create a more efficient and less wasteful restaurant model that can offer better pay and benefits to its staff while ensuring food safety. This is not a rosy, feel-good, "everybody wins" and "we all feel good" story on AI. Linkedin is already saturated with stories like that. As mainstream, company and government economists speak of "competitive advantages", "efficiencies" and "productivity", a critical way of thinking says something else: it's class struggle! Class struggles are indeed a key driver in the current breakneck development of #AI and other technologies. Here's an example: "On 1 April, the same day California’s new $20 hourly minimum wage for fast food workers went into effect, a new restaurant opened in north-east Los Angeles that was conspicuously light on human staff. CaliExpress by Flippy claims to be the world’s first fully autonomous restaurant, using a system of AI-powered robots to churn out fast food burgers and fries. A small number of humans are still required to push the buttons on the machines and assemble the burgers and toppings, but the companies involved tout that using their technology could cut labor costs, perhaps dramatically. “Eat the future,” they offer. The burger joint is a collaboration between multiple companies using it as a “test kitchen” for the future of fast food technology. The machine for making the burgers is produced by Cucina, a company focused on automating food production, which described its “BurgerChef” as a solution to a “65% increase in food service wages in the past 15 years”. The french fry-making robot, Flippy, was created by Miso Robotics, a local startup founded by a group of CalTech grads." So, no, AI is not a mere cutsy, cartoon-like solution for the world's problems. There's a lot more to it than meets the eye and I'm not just talking about the obvious and massive consumer-profiling and identity-based shopping this story clearly addresses. #robotics #ai #wages #food #automation #tech #technology https://lnkd.in/gT9mBy27

A reliable employee or a new robot? Good bye low paying repetitive jobs. Restaurants face tough challenges in automating kitchens, and efforts so far?have been halting. Unlike most auto parts, food is soft and sometimes slippery, requiring dexterity beyond the abilities of most of today’s commonly used robots. But rising labor costs will spur more automation in restaurants in the next decade, said?Sharon Zackfia, a restaurant analyst at William Blair Equity Research. She predicts this will likely follow the curve of online ordering, with early adopters designing their own costlier approaches before outside players invent more mainstream offerings. #machinestakingjobs

Robots Are Flipping Burgers (and More) as Restaurants Struggle to Hire In the EEUU, Americans love eating out, but restaurants are facing a major staffing shortage. The industry needs nearly 16 million workers, but many positions remain unfilled. This labor crunch is creating an opportunity for restaurant robotics. Startups are developing robots that can handle tasks like: ? Frying food ? Delivering food to tables ? Taking orders at drive-thrus ? Grilling burgers ? Clearing tables While some early ventures like robot pizza maker Zume have stumbled, others are gaining traction. Investors are putting money into companies like: 1?? Miso Robotics: Creators of Flippy, the robot fry cook. 2?? Bear Robotics: Developers of Servi, a robot that delivers food and drinks. 3?? Aniai: Makers of Alpha Grill, a burger-flipping robot that can cook 200 burgers per hour. 4?? Chef Robotics: Creators of robots that help food companies increase production volume. Is this the future of dining? It's still early to say. Restaurant robotics is a young industry, and some challenges remain: ?? Moving from a concept to a marketable product ?? Convincing investors to back these efforts ?? Overcoming high expectations However, the potential is undeniable. With the labor shortage persisting, restaurants may be more open to embracing robots. These tireless machines could free up human workers for more complex tasks, improving efficiency and customer service. Will robots become a familiar sight in our favorite restaurants? #restauranttech #restaurantrobots #labor shortage #futureoffood

Please call/text me if I can help you grow your team by using A.I. - 512-913-1811. I have people who have increased IT productivity and transformed it by 25% and increased revenue by 30% by implementing A.I. Yes, they are A.I. experienced IT copilots. Let's chat! If you're a hiring manager, I want to be your go-to partner for all your staffing and hiring needs. Artificial intelligence has been slowly creeping into the restaurant industry — from the avocado-peeling robot at Chipotle to order-taking chatbots at White Castle drive-throughs. And now, AI is coming for the hamburgers: Startup Aniai said Wednesday that it's raised another $12 million to expand manufacturing of its burger-grilling robot, Alpha Grill. The robot operates on a cloud-based AI software platform that helps monitor the burgers' temperature and quality, and notifies human staff if the patties are not up to snuff. Alpha Grill has been in U.S. testing since last year. More restaurants are turning to robots to solve their problems with labor shortages and rising wages — though some those same companies, including Chipotle, are also actively recruiting humans. One restaurant consulting firm found that robotics can help restaurants save up to 70% on labor costs, and could one day replace more than 80% of restaurant positions. https://lnkd.in/gQ5nhR22
