Anti-Material Rifle An Anti-Material Rifle (AMR) is a high-powered firearm designed to destroy or disable military equipment and vehicles, rather than personnel. These rifles typically fire large caliber rounds, often .50 caliber or higher, which can penetrate armored vehicles, light fortifications, and other hard targets. They are used for a variety of purposes, such as long-range precision shooting, vehicle disabling, and targeting high-value equipment like radar installations or communication gear. The ammunition used is specially designed for armor-piercing or explosive effects, making them highly effective against materials but not necessarily ideal for infantry targets. https://lnkd.in/etHrVPk5 The article titled "Hellion Bullpup for Vehicle Defense" by Alan M. Rice, published in The Armory Life, explores the features and benefits of using the Springfield Armory Hellion bullpup rifle for vehicle defense. It starts by highlighting the practical advantage of carrying a firearm in a vehicle, noting that while sidearms are commonly used for personal safety, a rifle like the Hellion offers increased capabilities. The author's focus on the Hellion is due to its compact design, which is advantageous in confined spaces like vehicles, and its ability to fire .223 Remington or 5.56x45mm NATO cartridges at significant velocities, offering greater stopping power than a standard pistol. The article further discusses the Hellion's specification and suitability as a vehicle-based weapon, emphasizing its full-length barrel, which retains the projectile velocity without the encumbrances of extra legal paperwork associated with short-barreled rifles

The Singapore Army has commenced the induction of Colt’s Infantry Automatic Rifle 6940 (IAR6940), designated locally as the IAR6940E-SG, as its new section automatic weapon (SAW). This advanced rifle replaces the long-serving ST Engineering 5.56 mm Ultimax 100 Mk2 light machine gun (LMG), which has been a mainstay since 1982. The transition to the IAR6940 began in April, as announced in a social media post by the Singapore Army on May 20. This move follows a thorough evaluation and procurement process conducted in collaboration with the state-owned Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA). The IAR6940E-SG is a closed-bolt rifle touted for its enhanced lethality, improved ergonomics, and adaptability to better meet the needs of Singaporean soldiers. The rifle is equipped with a suite of advanced sighting systems, including a red dot sight paired with a 3x magnifier scope, which collectively aid in faster and more accurate target acquisition. Further augmenting its operational versatility, the IAR6940E-SG features a multi-purpose laser aiming device (LAD) with four distinct modes: visible laser, infrared laser, infrared illuminator, and white-light torch. These options provide soldiers with enhanced effectiveness across various combat scenarios. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gvk3DaxZ

Patria and Rheinmetall announce the debut of their prototype Boxer Armoured Mortar Variant at the Defence Vehicle Dynamics (DVD Event 2024) exhibition in Millbrook, Bedfordshire, UK on 18 September, 2024. This ground-breaking collaboration marks a milestone in the development of the British Army’s Armoured Mortar Variant, showcasing the innovative capabilities of both companies. The new Armoured Mortar Variant, designed to enhance battlefield effectiveness, features state-of-the-art Patria NEMO 120mm turreted mortar system integrated onto Boxer highly mobile and protected platform. This variant is a testament to Patria’s and Rheinmetall’s commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions for modern armed forces. Key features: High rate of fire: The 120mm turreted mortar system can achieve a maximum rate of fire of 10 rounds per minute, providing rapid and sustained firepower in combat situations. Fire on the move: This capability allows the vehicle to fire while on the move, significantly reducing the risk of counter-battery fire and enhancing operational flexibility. Direct and indirect fire: Unlike typical mortar systems that only offer indirect fire, this variant can perform both direct and indirect fire, increasing its versatility and effectiveness in various combat scenarios. Multiple Rounds Simultaneous Impact (MRSI): The system can deliver up to five rounds to hit a target simultaneously, overwhelming enemy positions and maximising impact. MRSI can also be coordinated between multiple platforms to further increase the firepower. Extended range: With a range of up to 10 kilometres, the mortar system can engage targets at a considerable distance, providing support to frontline troops from a safe location. Superior protection: The turreted mortar system allows operators to remain protected within the vehicle at all times, enhancing survivability and crew safety in hostile environments, adding to the army’s deterrence.

It might look like this weapon came out of a movie or videogame, but back in 2015, DRDC and Colt Canada developed this integrated assault rifle concept for the Canadian Armed Forces. Their goal was to create a multi-role platform that provided more firepower, improved accuracy, and smart integration of accessories that connected to command-and-control networks. DRDC scientists rose to the challenge and worked with advanced material and electronic component technologies to test ergonomics, lightweight case telescoped ammunition, automatic target detection and data-sharing, and assisted target engagement (like a real world “aim-assist”). Though this rifle never made it past the prototype stage, it provided some important lessons and data to help move forward the Small Arms Modernization project, which successfully delivered on its other objectives like the C-22 Pistol, C-21 Sharpshooter Rifle, and C-19 Ranger Rifle. https://lnkd.in/eUnu-739 Posting as food for thought ... "Just when you thought we were safe to argue just its cost and how many units we can build a year, it appears that the Good-Idea-Fairies produced by the same machine that begat?LCS,?DDG-1000, and the?Franken-FREMM FFG?we are trying to build, have put their horrible track record to work trying to make DDG(X) follow in the footsteps of?CG(X). We have not changed our bureaucracy and process. We have not changed the incentives and disincentives inside this organization that keeps producing and promoting the same type of person. Heck, in some cases—because we are incapable of holding senior people accountable—we have the same people. Why should I expect a different result? The new rendering strikes the 5-inch Mark 45 gun entirely, a staple of U.S. Navy large surface combatants. The existing Mark 41 VLS modules have been rearranged, now installed in what appears to be four 8×2 cell modules stacked front to back. This design allows for additional room for larger diameter VLS modules in the future like Lockheed Martin’s G-VLS which?Naval News?covered?here. The new rendering also appears to strike the 150 kilowatt laser that was mounted behind the VLS cells in the 2022 rendering, leaving that mounting area without any fitted weapon systems. The front-facing bridge windows have been shrunk or stricken entirely. Yes, in today’s very busy seas and small boats loaded to the gills with high explosives captained by people looking for 72 maidens…by all means, lets limit the OOD and Command Officer’s ability to use the MK-1 Mod-0 eyeball. There is good news, and an opportunity for the new SECNAV and his team. It isn’t too late to toss this proposal into the dustbin. DDG(X) is continuing through its design and feasibility phase and the most recent render presented may not be the final design chosen by the U.S. Navy. The class is expected to begin construction in 2032. According to the U.S. Navy, DDG(X) will be the most complex ship ever fielded. In a lot of areas, we need a “Program Stand Down.” We cannot afford to be stupid, again, with DDG(X), nor with F/A-XX. Whatever is making these programs move at the speed of smell needs to be gutted and gibbeted. For 75 years, the Brightest People in the Room? have been telling us naval guns were obsolete, but in every real-world encounter with our messy and unpredictable world, we have needed them. We no longer live in the post-Cold War?land of the Lotus Eaters. Urgency and action. Embrace the good-enough and publicly damn the pursuit of the perfect and transformational, as that narcissistic folly is what got us into this mess."

The M10 Booker resembles a tank, with a conventional tank layout of an armored chassis, armored turret with main gun, and a tracked movement system. Despite the resemblance, the Army strenuously maintains that the M10 is not a tank, and refers to it as the Booker Combat Vehicle, or BCV. The M10, at approximately 38-42 tons, is significantly lighter than the 73-ton M1A2 SEPv3 main battle tank. Traditionally, a vehicle like the M10 was considered a light tank. Light tanks are generally used for reconnaissance, screening, and probing enemy positions. The modern battlefield, however, is so packed with threats—from loitering drones to anti-tank missiles and handheld anti-tank weapons—that the light tank concept is obsolete. Instead, the M10 is more like the assault gun concept pioneered by the German Army in World War II. Assault guns are armored vehicles that lend their main gun firepower to the infantry to support them in attack and defense, and use their mobility to rush from one trouble spot to another. In an attack, the BCV would use its 105mm main gun to destroy enemy bunkers, machine gun nests, fortifications, and other defenses that could hold up the advance of foot-bound infantry. In a defensive role, Note: The Army doesn’t want to call it a tank, but….
