Community development banking is all about getting down in the trenches, supporting local heroes, and bringing dreams to life. It’s not just about the bottom line; it’s about people's lives, their neighborhoods, and giving everyone a fair crack at success. What really lights a fire under this industry is its tangible impact. In the US alone, community development financial institutions have poured billions into areas that the traditional banking sector often overlooks. We're talking about over $100 billion invested in neighborhoods, small businesses, and affordable housing projects. These aren’t just numbers; they represent families getting their first home, entrepreneurs opening the doors to their dreams, and communities finding new strength to grow and overcome being overlooked by traditional banking. My role? It’s to amplify these stories, to make sure the world knows about the everyday victories happening in our own backyards– but the real heroes are the ones out there making it happen every day. I’m here to tell their stories, to spotlight the impact, and to invite more people to join in this movement. The power of community development banking lies in its ability to transform lives and landscapes. As we push forward, I’m excited to dive into the heart of these communities, to see firsthand the difference our work makes, and to share these stories with you. It’s a journey of a million steps, starting with one simple belief: finance should work for everyone. So here’s to the road ahead, filled with potential and promise. If we were to move #philanthropy to all direct cash (ie everything just becomes about cash payments to those who have basic needs that just aren’t being met by government, jobs, education opportunities etc) how quickly would we see results … Versus… Paying “intermediaries” or implementers. What would be missing? - skill transfer? - capacity building? - other infrastructure needs? Maybe we just over complicate it. The GiveDirectly model claims you can send money directly to people in “poverty”. Is that any less colonial? Impacts are relatively the same. Curious what you all think. Cash vs Capacity.

Habits Of Wealthy People Turn Off The TV This wealth-building habit is one of the more interesting ones I have encountered. The higher a person’s income, the fewer hours of TV they watch. One reason is probably that they are out of the house more. Not necessarily working, but networking and participating in groups, seminars, industry events, and volunteering. Also, they tend to read more, leaving them little time for too much TV watching.
